Do any of you feel that there will be layoffs for bargained for employees working within uverse?

Not a dream, it has already been stated by both the company and the CWA.
Doomsayers need to chill out. There will be some layoffs as a result of this merger. But the majority will stay. One only has to do some research to know the answers to some of the questions posted here.
Read the reviews on DTV - you will see just where the company is heading. One review inparticular from a contractor tells how badly they are treated by DTV. You may think at&t is bad but DTV sounds like a taste of hell. Thinks at&t will be happy to continue using the contractors and rerps as it will definitely be more profitable for them.

Keep believing the story. ATT will save big with contractors and dump employees including the vehicles, tools, training, and other expenses.
DTV contractors get about $60k flat. all costs are theirs as contractors. guess which will go.
Nice, a reply from a commercial story writer. the reality is Direct TV is a wireless service and can supply all the required video a customer needs. DTV is all contractors and regardless how it's stated , ATT does not want ANY wire service including U-Verse. Even Verizon is dumping FIOS.

Future does not look bright for union workers, U-verse has about 6 million video subscribers. The long-term fate of the service is unclear if AT&T’s $48 billion merger with DirecTV is approved. But the company has said that in the short term, U-verse will operate as a separate entity from DirecTV even if the deal is completed, unlikely since direcTV 95% of employees are contractors.
CBS also oddly leaked internal worries that AT&T is stalling their programming contract extension, because it plans to shutter U-Verse TV after the telco acquires DirecTV, with this been said AT&T end up approving the contract pending DirecTV merger for obvious reasons.
Stankey: We sold to different customer bases. There's some overlap in the markets but we played to the bundle game with U-verse by consolidating product offerings. DirectTV played to people who wanted to buy standalone video. We now can start to cross market products and services. Over the long haul our goal is offer one video product in the market, (with) one video channel lineup, one set of programming relationships, one video brand.
To do that, we have to do integration work of the technical platforms. I wouldn't think about it as one going away or the other one going away. It's about how the two of them arrive at a new place that's better. Building that new platform is going to take us 24 to 36 months. Our goal is if you're a consumer of ours today that this transition is done in way that is evolutionary (and) non-invasive. This new platform is very software centric. We'll be able to bring the customer new features and services incrementally.
