Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

AT&T is all about ethics

Our unit had 25 laid off workers all very experienced IP Product support, most of them achievers, with average 23 years of service, a week later 15 inexperienced workers came from the Telco side and took theirs positions in out team, this people do not know anything about the 30 products supported by our team, Will take them years to figure out how to support su h products, no doubt.

Do this former employees have grounds against AT&T?

Managers aren't deciding, HR is. Based on past performance reviews and "other things."

To Anonymous124045 how do you know the managers will be deciding whom will be cut? And do you mean ALL Departments?

Age discrimination...no executives wanting more bonus money. By the end of July all departments will be given their numbers and the managers MUST select from their group for the "right sizing"

I am a Google engineer, quick note to all technology AT&T senior managers:

Since the early days of Google, people throughout the company have questioned the value of managers. That skepticism stems from a highly technocratic culture. As one software engineer my friend Eric Flatt, puts it, “We are a company built by engineers for engineers.” And most engineers, not just those at Google, want to spend their time designing and debugging, not communicating with bosses or supervising other workers’ progress. In their hearts they’ve long believed that management is more destructive than beneficial, a distraction from “real work” and tangible, goal-directed tasks.

AT&T's goal/policy is to have people purchase the equipment and go over the buyers remorse period - they have it all worked out that the first bill is not received until after that period is over. Does anyone really think at&t cares about the service the customers are receiving. The only concern is that the customers are paying the bill they receive monthly without asking any question. This is why thay want customers to sign up for auto pay - most people do not check the bill if they are set up with auto pay.

My perception of AT*T = "string, glue and duct tape" - that's exactly right #432

Management thinks that everything is smoothly operating based on M&Ps. They have no clue how much string, glue and duct tape is actually holding everything together. So what happens when the folks who really know how thing operate are gone and the new folks are handed those processes that just don't work?
