Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

September more layoffs

The sad news is most people don't have a clue where the company is going. ATT sold the east region company( SNET) and had 4980 people before the sale. Frontier took 2700 leaving the remainder. Starting in January ATT started slowly "correcting head count" to "better serve the customers" and "insure corporate profit stability"

The need for 2280 in a state where there is zero work should wake up people. ATT will slowly remove the remainder.

Think about this. Verizon sold all wireline and video in Florida, Texas, California to Frontier a couple of months ago. Previously they sold Frontier 1.5 million wireline customers in the east to concentrate on wireless cell service .

Starting to get the trend?? ATT quietly has a request before a few states to gain Non Dominate status that will allow them to dump wireline. Florida, Georgia, Illinois and a couple more. Still think it was only that small company in the east? The first commercial phone company, the first with dial service, the first with fiber service, the first to have a woman operator. the first with a phone book.

ATT sold both wireline and U-Verse service to Frontier so don't think your safe if your in the video side.

Next surprise is the next few week the executives will have calls with 2nd level and above to layout the direction and the them "calm" down the troops below..

"2280 in a state with no work" = not true. There is quite a bit going on in CT, just not wireline work.

CT was a special case. It was on an island, not congruent to the rest of our wireline footprint. There are no plans to get rid of wireline in other states. They are obviously scaling back and getting away from the older technology but they are not getting rid of it all together. Not to say someone couldn't make an offer too good to refuse, but at this point that hasn't happened.

And lastly, execs don't have these calls with 2nd levels. Occasionally 3rd level and up, but not 2nd.

A lot of incorrect information and assumptions here; seemingly based on a very narrow perspective of overall company operartions. Makes for good rumormongering though.

As far as California goes I not sure the cpuc would allow a sale to frontier, as it would create a state monopoly? Any ideas?
