Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

No pay raise for lateral moves? No raises (again)?

Is this a newer HR policy? I had not moved jobs since pre-shakeups, but every time I did, even if it was a lateral there was a corresponding pay increase.

Does this also mean that compensation will be flat year-over-year if you are staying in the same role? Unclear what the motivation to work my a-s off would be if they only way to make it pay off is getting a promotion, which seem like they are so infrequent and therefore will be extremely competitive.

It seems like the directors got this pass-down from LTs, but managers and leads are having to hear about this through the grapevine

@1kvg+1vrzTTN2 I also know people that got lateral positions with increase pay so its possible. JUST DO IT. Stop pretending that its not possible.

Let me also stress that this isn’t about how difficult the job market is or it isn’t but more so that you are not obligated to stick around at a place where you don’t feel valued. Even if it takes a year to find a job then the clock on that year starts ticking when YOU decide to start looking.

@1bbe+1vrzTTN2 Wrong on everything except the moving to some generic field. You’re correct on that one.. I did move away to a “generic” field in a different City. And yes, not related to sport and newsflash for you, the overwhelming majority of jobs at Nike are not related to sports. Tech, merchandising, supply chain, finance, and the list can go on. None of those feels are specific to sports only. And yes, there are some super talented people out there who are still looking but I can only share what I know to be a fact for my team that I worked on. And no, I am not low on the ladder, nor I higher up on the ladder. My boss was laid off in round one, and that was all I needed to see. I started looking immediately.

And for the truly talented people out there who are struggling, I will say this… it is not you. Jobhunting has changed significantly since you last looked and my most valued suggestion that I can make is to constantly look at your process and refine, refine, refine.

@1lgr+1vrzTTN2 Now you know this isn’t true. you and I both know plenty of talented people who are still looking for work, for multiple reasons. Your attitude and tone of your commentary tells me however, that you’re toxic, arrogant, extreme lack of EQ and quite low on the ladder so finding work is easier, or you moved into some type of generic field not related to working in sport.

I made a lateral move a month ago with 10% increase. Moved org within global tech. New VP was helpful in getting it approved

Fear is the mind ki-ler… I got laid off and picked up something in 2 months. The other competent people on my team also started working by 4th of July. I kid you not when I say the only people still looking are the people we knew weren’t doing sh_t to begin with.

I say all that to say, there are jobs out there to be had if you look hard enough. It’s not going to be quick, but the first step is the most important step and if you feel undervalued, you owe it to yourself to GTFO.

Don’t let the rest of the people in in this cult tell you that you should be grateful for scraps.

So 10% of your colleagues loose their job and you expect more when company sales and profits are project's?

Your financial and emotional literacy may be part of the problem.

Also: adidas didn’t give raises or bonuses for many of the years from 2017-2023… so try try again

@1uom+1vrzTTN2 Do you have the same years of experience? Worked on as dynamic / complex/ high profile projects or teams? Seen the inside of multiple brands? Functions? Lived in multiple cities? Countries? Taken the same risks with your career?

It’s not as simple as inside v outside and all talent should be benchmarked the same. Quantify your value and understand the gaps.

@1uom+1vrzTTN2 better than no job, clearly. it’s this way at every company, you get more if you leave, always.

also, if you didn’t know, Nike pays more than competitors (all Of them). Nike lead salary mid-band is the same as director at almost every other brand.

Good luck to you! Hope you find what you’re looking for?

To all the downvoted id--ts preaching gratefulness

Sorry there are some of us that are not subservient to our swoosh overlords and don't just want to accept salary stagnation no questions asked.

It's normal for large companies like Nike to give raises year over year without a promotion, and pay a higher salary if you take a lateral. If you want to just take your measly 3% each year more power to you clowns.

Did you read the post a few days ago about the person laid off last year still looking? Maybe time to be grateful. Many who are out of work would gladly work twice as hard to trade places with you in a heartbeat.

Yo everyone is stuck. Have you seen the job market and number of layoffs and RTO5 going on at Apple, Tik Tok, amazons, etc.

So many people on the market clamoring for these open roles, that’s the incentive now.

no idea if it's a new policy but i can confirm this from experience applying to a mid level lateral role. taking a lateral position for the same pay would put somebody at a disadvantage because they'd be required to be in that role for 12 months before applying to anything else with no chance at a pay increase.

doing that is the exact point of a stretch, but it seems many orgs are blocking stretches.

with no promotions, no pay increases for lateral moves, no stretches, and hardly any mid-senior level jobs posted seems we're all stuck
