Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Parental Leave and Layoff

Is anyone familiar with how WF has handled layoffs for employees on parental leave?

The displacement/severance policy is opaque and the guidance I found is that they COULD give notice to someone on parental leave (start the 60 day notice period), and then the door is open for WF to either terminate the employee if still on parental leave (starting severance) or wait to until they are back then terminate and start severance.

Just wondering if someone has seen how they handled it either directly or with a peer. Thanks!

I was laid off less than two weeks into my maternity leave and was told the severance policy runs concurrently with the maternity leave so I did not receive any extra time off/was treated the same as any other employees laid off that day. It was horrible at the time but I landed a new much better paying job shortly after my maternity leave was supposed to end.

Sue them for wrongful termination!

Yep - it is not taken into acount. I had somebody on leave and their number happened to come up (fake location strategy-based layoff). Luckily, I was able to provide a business justification and avoid severing a new parent on leave.

FMLA doesn't protect against a displacement...so many new mothers have been given the cut while on maternity leave...happens at all large corporations.

OP here. Thanks 9k8!

Good to know that WF handled it like that.

Hopefully I'm gone before I find out for myself, but there is a possibility, in which case stacking parental leave and severance would be a relief.

I know someone who was laid off while on parental leave. Their 60 day notice started on the day the were supposed to return to work from leave. From what I understand, they got the call while on leave.
