Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Start looking for job NOW

It is hard to believe there will not be any more layoffs this year or next year. Start updating your resume and look for job now while you still have the leverage. I remember asking our VP if there will be any layoffs in 2023 or 2024 and he kept saying no we are safe up until it happened! His reaction? Oops I did not know

@3urt+1tk760jd I can see both sides, and hard to say with real anecdotal information. Sure you know 10 people who found jobs.. what level? Did they take cuts? Did they have to uproot families? Did they have to leave industry?

I know people who have found jobs quickly and a few top performers who are doing everything you say and still have not.

At the end of the day, especially if you’re in product or have made a career working with athletes you’d like to continue, there are limited routes.

Be careful to assume only the best get re employed quickly. Sometimes the best are those that took time to regroup, or aren’t settling in their search.

@3hyk+1tk760jd Agree 100%. Some people just love to always be hopeless! In my inner circle of co workers, over the past 6 months, at least 10 people quit or laid off and all now have jobs! Those who have been at Nike for the past 10-15 years delivering shiny power points yes those will have a hard time finding job elsewhere. Those who have million dollars houses in Portland ane do not want to move out of state or got their Nike job because their spouse was at Nike, or those who are not willing to take a paycut... Yes then it will be hard.
If you approach job seeking like a full time job, constantly apply Or reach out to people on Linkedin, learn a few skills, leave your options open for out of state relocation, willing to take a pay cut, willing to use your transferable skills to search jobs in other industries, reach out to recruiters actively, use Jobco to scan your CV and cover letter to match the job description, you will land something....

The solution is to not spread your toxic energy and attitude around while you’re looking. Good luck finding something, seriously, I hope it’s no where near where I work because the energy drain you spout is real

@1rji+1tk760jd You do realize your historic unemployment low is a false calculation, don’t you? Everyone unemployed longer than 6 months falls off these numbers, as do people who are forced to take part time low paying jobs to survive.

You seem incredibly disconnected from reality

@1rji+1tk760jd are you in the job market?

I know people With PhDs and 40 parents who have been struggling to find a job for a year.

Better to say some people get lucky and for most it’s terrible market. The numbers show white collar work is contracting.

One more time…

The job market will be good or bad depending on YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL skill set, experience, and ability to market yourself.

Do you have a basket of mostly soft skills that any reasonably intelligent person might also have? Are you unable to differentiate yourself in any meaningful way from other candidates? Then yeah, it’s a tough job market. Are you proficient with crunching data and even have recognized certifications attesting to that skill and proficiency? Can you put together a compelling CV and also nail interviews? Cool. You’ll likely be able to land a job without too much difficulty.

I’ll never understand why people here continue to insist that the job market is some monolithic thing that treats everyone equally, resulting in generic and useless proclamations like “The job market is bad.” Maybe it is for you, maybe it isn’t for someone else.

Moreover the unemployment rate is near 50 year lows. The last recession was in 2009 meaning that most of you under the age of 35 have no idea what a bad job market or bad economy actually looks like. What you’re seeing now isn’t it.

@1cch+1tk760jd I agree with you that it is a tough market, depending on your expertise, and I also agree it is hard to find a job. BUT, SO WHAT? do you have any other suggestion or solution except looking for job?

As someone else also laid off like @lrhh, I think their point is the market is absolute sh-t. Oversaturated. Job postings get inundated with applicants. It’s rough trying to find work. If you have a job and a steady paycheck during this sh-t market, you’re lucky. Even if it’s with Nike. The nasty responses are unnecessary. Our livelihoods have been destroyed.

@1rhh+1tk760jd I am not looking for job as I am close to retirement. But my daughter is graduating soon and she is looking. Let me tell her to pause looking because you are looking for job!
Seriously... Typical selfish and self-centered behavior you expect from Americans. Ugh!

@1rhh+1tk760jd oh I am so sorry! I did not know you are looking for job! I will pause my job search and will wait for Nike to lay me off and I get behind my mortgage!!!! But that is not important! It is important that you are looking for job. Can you just please let me know once you get an offer so I can resume my search? Hopefully you find a job before I get behind bills.... Thank you! A--hole

Please don’t start looking now while all of us who were laid off are still unemployed. I say that from a place of complete fear that the market is so awful, we don’t need more people looking for work with us. 🥺

There are jobs outside. Just open your linkedin and see how many former nike people are announcing new roles

@lxh+1tk760jd Are you from HR trying to spread fear and ki-l hope? Just so you know I have 3 of my co workers who did find job and quit! I am next. Also at least 2 people outside of our immediate team found high paying remote jobs and quit last month. The market may be tough if you do not have skills, or strictly look for footwear industry in Portland

OP is right, there will absolutely be more layoffs. The silver fox clown JD promised $2 billion in cost reductions all while revenue is slumping. Do yourself a favor and prepare your resume, start the process now while you have a job. It will take you at least 6 months the market is bad and getting worse.

Good luck finding jobs when the market is contracting! Especially as other companies also lay off quite frequently, being a newbie might not be the best choice
