"Why is it everything you read about the economy is so rosy, yet people getting laid off are not finding that to be true at all? When people start taking 1/3 or more paycuts to make ends meet, that's not good for the economy. Nothing about the current economy feels good, so what is actually going on? Why the disconnect?"
Overall, the economy is doing well in spite of continued inflation, which is eating into consumers' wallets. And while hiring has been great in the retail and services sectors, tech and finance jobs have dried up while layoffs in those sectors have increased. The result is what I've heard described as a "vibe-cession".
And while I'm certainly no fan of TFG, the current administration, being as this is an election year, has no reason to say anything other than that the economy is doing well.
