Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I need courage to quit

I'm thinking about it every single day but I'm too scared to do it. The worst part is that I have enough savings to be okay even if I can't find something else for at least six months. Plus, I don't have a wife or kids who depend on me. Still, I can't get myself to do it. I feel like such a cowardly failure.

I found another job and then quit. Was once envious when reading on here of others who did it. You can do it as well. This page is still entertaining to come back to tho. Good luck!

"I need courage to quit"
No, you need another job before you quit...
Way too many b-ms out there already, be a responsible adult and do a good job at your present employer while you look for a different job.
Don't be a baby, be responsible.

ANY job is better than being a b-m, or a welfare b-m, or a snowflake running home to live with mommy because it's "just too hard" or "They want me to come to work", or "I don't like it", or "They want me to work at work", or any number of excuses the bab1es today give...

Continue to be a responsible adult and do a good job for your present employer until you find a better one.

Good Luck......

" I started interviewing and found a WFH job that pays less. So I accepted the job, but brought the laptop they sent me into the AT&T office..."

Interesting. I get that T is oblivious, and I guess you're lucky you're in a role where you can do that (there is no way I could). Curious, about the new "WFH" role ...are they aware you are still employed by T?

I wouldn't worry about the data usage, etc. so much. Giving T too much credit there. They are too focused on badge swipes. Your biggest risk is someone dropping a dime on you.

So this is the type of courage you bring to your job every day? No wonder T is in this deep of a mess.

I'm leaving with or without any severance pay that I might get if I stay longer! The problem is, I don't think that layoff notice will ever come, so I'm just prolonging the pain of staying on board with this company. It's painful to stay any longer! Time to just pull the plug!

“I started interviewing and found a WFH job that pays less. So I accepted the job, but brought the laptop they sent me into the AT&T office. There’s really not much to do in my AT&T role, but I’m on calls with the new job a lot, so I reserved a conference room. Nobody bugs me as both companies are telecom. So I think I’ll just collect 2 paychecks and see where this goes. I was worried about using AT&T WiFi, so I bought a Mint Mobile plan with unlimited data hotspot. Works well enough. Does anyone know if AT&T WiFi is monitored? Mint Mobile is cheaper than AT&T, but still pricey for the days I have to be in an AT&T office.”

Nice man, killin’ it.
I wouldn’t use the T WiFi for anything, that being said you could just use your phone as a hotspot, it’s a private line vs paying extra for mint.

Take some of your PTO; not like a day or two, like a real week or more, and go somewhere. Don't just sit at home. Go book something fun via a Groupon or AAA or through Costco/Sam's travel. A week doing something like driving up the coast, or sitting on a beach, or hiking in one of the national parks. It may give you a sense of direction or courage when you totally decompress.

Don’t give your notice until you’ve been offered (& accepted) another gig. Keep seeking and persevering.

Violate the COBC, get fired then sue! The company will settle!!

There are people that have violated the COBC and the company still keeps them on the payroll!!

I was scared too, but the grass can be greener on the other side. It's the culture they have that scares you into staying. You have one life and T isn't it.

Your sentiment mirrors the majority of employees at T!
Thanks to the Toxic T culture AND the ever looming layoffs that are ALWAYS ongoing!

If you can hang in there, the economy will eventually turn around and the job market will eventually get better!

@lul I've been looking when I have time but I haven't had any luck so far. That's one of the reasons why I'm scared to pull the plug.

You sound like someone indecisive about everything in life. Life is too short.

Are you actively looking for a new job right now? Get the new job first then quit. That should ease your anxiety that way.

If you wake up and dread going to work more often than you look forward to it, then quit, if you are able. Life’s too short to be unhappy.
