I recently updated my Linkedin profile preparing for the inevitable and I have to say, being on that platform is torture. The cheerleading and phony positivity everyone excudes with hopes of landing a job or looking good for their boss is nauseating. People are posting about how their sh$%ty company laid them off all while spinning it as a 'new chapter'. Good lord.

I got a layoff from WF a while back. Can confirm the OP’s opinion of the posts on Linkedin. Makes me want to pu-e. I deleted my account there. Good luck to you all, Teammates.
By far my favorite LinkedIn posts are the horrific managers sharing motivational posts about how people don’t leave jobs and companies but bad managers. Makes you wonder just how oblivious they really are to be trolling themselves.

To be fair, it's bad form to trash your employer on LinkedIn no matter how bad they were.
I don’t use LinkedIn for the social aspects. I keep my info up to date and on a slow week 1 recruiter may reach out, lately it’s been 4-5 a week, during the summer and early in the year it’s easily 10 a week. I’ve gotten 2 jobs from LinkedIn, 1 was an internal recruiter and the other worked for a company. I’ve also turned down 2 job offers from recruiters who reached out via LinkedIn. I didn’t update my info for a while to show I worked at WF and internal recruiters or external ones would reach out at least once a month about roles.
The sad truth is that for some industries LinkedIn is the best job site despite being the worst of the worst for social networking. There are tried and true playbooks to get noticed but it's a lot more effort and salesmanship/self-promotion than most people are interested in putting forward.
You also need to be aware of the fact that a ton of LinkedIn job postings are resume harvesting. Yes, you can find a legit job there but you're better off directly applying through the company you want to get hired by's own career site.
All of their posts on LinkedIn are complete opposite to what is happening. Not worth trashing Wells, they trashed themselves on their own reputation and scandals. LinkedIn is great and good for networking. I noticed this org doesn't like when employees are well connected on there. Another red flag to avoid working here.
I long for the day when I retire so I can post filterless replies to Corporate BS on LinkedIn.

A few years ago it was for networking -but has run its course just like Facebook.
I don't think it's necessary to have a LinkedIn profile in order for a company to consider you. The problem is, many of the job opportunities are posted here, so by not being on there you are potentially missing out on finding the jobs. So play along folks.

Yes, you need one. If a hiring manager or recruiter can’t find one, it’s an easy way to overlook you. if you don't have one, it's perceived as your skills are out of date, or, you are hiding something. People look at the number of connections you have too. (Assumption you are not a team player and/or former colleagues don’t like you)
Create one and start building your network. Don’t give a new company an easy reason to pull you from the candidates pool. Good luck!
You'll forget the fake positivity when you click to apply on a job listing that has been posted for 4 hours and has 700 applicants already or when you see the I'm about to be homeless because I haven't been able to find a job in over a year posts. Tough out there.

Finding your next job is a lot different now.
Definitely don’t follow Wells main page. FFS all the sheit eating employees posting su-k ups and then the social media team liking and responding to every single one. I follow maybe 10 pages, had to unfollow Wells because it flooded the feed.
LinkedIn is like a communist social media platform - if managers or executives follow you it means that you can’t say what you want (or even “like” certain posts) without potential consequences. Someone is always watching.

Yes- of all the social media I’m on I think LinkedIn is the worst. So much desperation disguised as new opportunities. Sorry but the power players aren’t on LinkedIn, they are behind closed doors.
