Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Next round

We all know it's coming. I'm just wondering how long it will take before they announce it. I'm hoping we'll get at least a good six months to recover from this last disaster but I know that's most likely just wishful thinking. I wish the job market was better so I didn't have to worry this much about losing my job.

What was your tc then and now? The difference is usually so stark that I would consider Nike a retirement comp really.

Ex-MAANG here… I took the job at Nike because in my previous role, I dealt with:

  • Non-existent work-life balance.
  • Emotionally abusive Manager.
  • Years of fake promises on promotions and the job title (career direction) I wanted.

Until now it was a dream. Now I survived the layoffs but hate the changes they made and how they affect me. They don’t align at all with what I want, but for now I will shut up until I find something better. The job market is brutal.

Anyone coming from tech to Nike is just looking to sit around on their fat tech earnings from before and just chill on essentially passive income. Focus on other things in life.

The uncertainty of whether or not people have a job is crushing the people who remain. I lived in that uncertainty for a year. Now I have certainty that I’m unemployed and it’s quite honestly a relief. To stay and still worry about this would crush me and it’s is taking a massive toll on absolutely everyone there. You’re burning all your bridges, Nike, with all the good & hardworking people who you’ve dumped and who are still there.

local/HQ staff reduction guidance has always been in terms of "by June." suggests there's more to come, despite what some brown nosing SD/VP may think

Anyone that thinks multiple rounds are not coming is kidding themselves. A $2 billion dollar cost reduction commitment by a company that is terrible at managing operations can only reduce cost by cutting people. The brand isn’t what it was & there doesn’t appear to be any plan to improve that. Sad to see a once great brand failing so miserably.

I’ve seen plenty of folks are ex-Amazon, work life balance is a thing people do consider you know.

You just be new to Nike. Pretty much every 3 years, so chances are you’ll be fine until then. As someone mentioned earlier to keep yourself grounded in the present, focus on what you can control. Keep your resume ready and updated, search for other opportunities in the meantime if you must. Just know this happens with every large corporation, this is my fifth with the company. Perhaps you are better off working for a small business, something to keep on mind.

Good luck with the job search OP, I’m sorry you were affected this round. Life moves on, don’t let Nike live rent free in your head.

Do you really think anyone would leave Amazon to go to Nike?
I don't. At least not anyone skilled.
