Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Supply Chain University

Had this course one year after I got hired, it was good, would be very beneficial if I did it when first on boarded, for someone didn’t come from shoes and apparel industry, I struggled so much in the beginning.

With that said, I found it interesting this one guy convinced the NIKE SLT that only him can give this courses and only in person or live on zoom. There’s no scalable options that would work, is this just to create job security for himself? How does he pull it off all these years?

I find it ridiculous and fascinating at the same time. I also got laid off, just had this question for a while.

Most people love JM and his teaching style. He's adored by the company and for many, he represents what the brand is all about. My personal view (having taken SCU thrice over ten years) is that Nike should look to diversify the way this crucial class is taught - he's a great entertainer and comedian but his style is take it or leave it, bombastic and in your face (arguably this is also tbe Nike way), aimed at insiders and extroverts, and extremely off putting for more introverted ND folks (like me) who don't thrive in the hot seat and who prefer a different teaching style. No one I've spoken to agrees with me - he's universally loved - but I also think he represents Nike's historical monoculture, which is in dire need of retooling.

While useful for everyone the class is only critical for decision makers.

The average analyst or engineer doesn’t need to understand the multi-year product lifecycle that runs our multi-billion dollar business.

Frankly I’m glad they let anyone sign up, even if it’s just to keep the class live & fresh. I feel like other businesses wouldn’t have exposed so much of their operations to anyone with a spare afternoon.

The reason why it isnt scaled is because everyone walks out of that class knowing what Nike is all about (or was, anyway). Same reason why school teachers are ineffective with more than 20 kids (and most public schools are 30+). Class is great and everyone walks out knowing more than when they came in.

NEXT TOPIC!

by the way, that level of confidence and insight is how most of the original (2nd gen) Nike personalities used to be.

So much fun, great people. They are the soul of the company. Never forget them.

They use it as a screening technique to find the alien infiltrators

lol touchy feelings, yes, he is the real one, kept the same job for 30 years, I’m not, I just got fired, all facts. But it isn’t it best for Nike if this course can be scaled? Knowledge is meant to be shared, right?

Although yeah, most of decisions made at Nike was not for the best interest for Nike, I did learn that the hard way.

JM is awesome, I enjoyed his course, no disrespects.

I mean he does a good job of engaging and teaching. “Shareholder price!!! Tiger woods red t shirts!!!!”
Its like why do teachers and professors get paid to teach one class a semester right.
