Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Point of RTO? Just a cheap layoff scheme.

I’m one of those people for whom RTO means relocation. Which is a pricey affair, and I may still get laid off a week from relocation. Since nobody in their right mind can think that relocating is a viable option for anyone, what’s the point? I just hope some peeps would stop pushing this bullsh-t about work performance, cooperation, stock value and other nonsense. It’s just a cheap layoff scheme.

You’re one of those people who might actually be better off with a brain tumor. At least something in your skull would be working.

Correction to post below - the person Amanda chatted with live said the survey results would be out in May.

We're doing such a great job of 'collaborating' due to RTO that network failures keep making the news. Thanks, Stankey!! You've done such a great job boosting morale with your forced demented RTO policy and gutting of personnel that the company brings 'always on, sometimes'. Bravo

I suspect it is the result of a mass exodus from the office that takes place everyday between 11-2. Folks driving home while on the clock, when they should be watching the network.

Hey Sambar, when are you and other leaders going to establish a written policy for RTO with clearly written rules (not guidelines) with no ambiguity? What I have observed myself in my local office along with what friends in other locales have reported is simply ridiculous and is the result of you and your leaders inability to execute a plan. Some, not all, are not engaged when in the office. Excessive BS calls with friends, messing with their phones for hours over the course of the day, and doing who knows what on their personal laptops. You folks have ki-led this company, and at this point we know the lack of survey results supports it. Listen, the survey results were collected electronically and we all know the results were tabulated within a day of the survey closing (but because we are not “always on” I expand that to a week). Come clean, why the delay. Your chief, I think her name is Amanda, confirmed live during your town hall they apologized for the delay but said the results would be out in June. Still nothing. At this point, like our quarterly results, there is doubt the survey results will be raw and uncooked. What a joke this place is.

Correct, there are many folks who lost their jobs after relocating on their own money to Dallas. It is forced layoffs while being called RTO.

Hey, I am no fan of RTO but it is comments like this that make the base seem like whiners. You personally know of how many people that this happened to and over what timeframe? Or, are you just repeating the comments that others have made (also with no numbers to support it) or hearsay in the office?

"HR people and bad managers are petrified of WFH."

Most of our HR staff are worthless anyway. There stock answer to any question is to ask someone else or go to HR OneStop. And then, if you still cannot find the answer to the question, call the 800 number.

Occasionally, you come across a good HR employee and they help you. When you find one, hang on to that name so you can go back to them when your HR representative sux.

"The correct acronym that needs to be used is RTW (Return To Work)."

Actually, the correct acronym for the required change in work location to one of the hub cities is FTW, Follow the Work.

Yes, I think most posts neglect to differentiate between RTO and the How and Where We Work (HWWW) initiative, which forces people to move to the 4 hub locations. I have been going to my pre-covid office in one of the Core locations since September 2023 (this is RTO), but was surprlused in late May 2024 because I declined to move to one of the hub locations (this is HWWW).

Yep…and Ai will likely replace lots of a recruiters job too…

RTO - report to your pre-covid office does not equal report to an office several thousand miles away... This might be far above the thinking process of some union folks

Union people are aware it's a thinly veiled headcount reduction scheme. The same game has been played on us:

We're moving your work from town A to town B. You can follow your work.

One year later:

We're moving your work from town B to town A.

Moving is no guarantee of a job
It's happened to many before you and will happen to many after you no doubt
If the only reason you're moving to a particular city is for AT&T you might want to rethink that
RTO is a method to reduce staff, but they're surpluses going on throughout the company that have nothing to do with RTO.
My friend of mine is in an org that had surplus calls today.
Nothing to do with RTO.
They won't find out until later no time given but there are most definitely people impacted in Hub cities.
