Location Strategy Hits COO

Got our initial contact from management last week for impact of Location Strategy.

Three Options:

  1. Relocate to new location (MN, IA, or NC)
  2. Commute to 1 of the above locations at your own cost 3 days/week
  3. Accept Severance Package.

Happy that I have an option for the severance package. Also happy that you do not get penalized if you find a new job during that period (i.e. you still get your severance.) You just have to be careful not to accept a position during your notice period.

There's always exceptions. Operations people tend to be physically located by necessity close to customers, and they roll up to that vile POS named SP now, so there will definitely be a little hiring outside of hubs. It has to be for a specific need though, not just because the best candidate happens to live in a different city. Because who gives an S about hiring the best talent.

What about those with medical accomodation in a different city?

This is the OP. Some of our California workers are impacted. As I understand it, it will be going on in phases.
Phase 1 - Non-Customer Facing in Remote locations. (with the exception of if your team is going through RCSA, they get impacted after RCSA is completed.)
Phase 2 - People in an office but not a location where their managers reside/work.

"Wait so NO new COO team members will be hired outside of those places? No matter which group within?"

This is my understanding. Unless your I&P and working on the other side of the world.

I’m in that group, not near a listed COO location and didn’t get the talk (or any talk). Guess that’s my sign that next Tuesday could be my displacement day.

Bring it on!

I’m in COO in Oregon. AFAIK, my department didn’t receive any notification like this.

Last time this was going on (cancelled in 2020) they weren’t giving the option to commute
