Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

NEW RULES

Ok comrades if we are going to get through this, we need to talk about some new rules.

  1. If you are in global tech, GAP, insights, innovation etc., STOP asking if they are done with restructuring your department. They will be done May 31st. You are not safe. No one is safe.
  1. Can we put unnecessary politics on hold for a second? Stop bashing wOkEism and DEI. Yea, DEI needs a shakeup but caring about inclusion isn’t why we are in this mess. Cr-ppy leaders is why we are in this mess. (This is a distraction that takes us away from solving the issues at hand. And, you sound like a hateful a-hole).
  1. Demand a work environment that allows you to be as productive as possible. Be honest with your bosses about what you need. What isn’t working? Why? Do you have data to back that up? Numbers talk.
  1. Leaders: Stop saying this to your teams. “Dig deep and find your purpose.” That was an appropriate platitude 12-18 months ago. We’re tired. The why is that we have bills to pay.

Why would anything be different after 5/31? Is JD leaving, and taking his Bain culture with him? Unless business improves we’re going to have rounds of layoffs every quarter. Absent profitability, JD would have to give up his jet(s). Thus the continual churn.

On 5/31, we’ll simply be done for now. When Q1 results come-in, anything but tremendous upside will result in another round of layoffs late Q2; early Q3. This is literally the JD stated strategy of how to run companies.

We’ll never be done with layoffs until there is a reasonably qualified leader that improves growth. JD has ki-led the growth machine that was Nike.

What major business improving project are you aware of that will change the outcome of the future?

Yes! Especially number 4. The giant elephant in the room is never brought up in my org unless it’s saying do more, dig deeper, and we’re still here so, don’t forget to smile about it?
