Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Types of employees at AT&T, add yours

The recent college grad, full of enthusiasm, doesn't have a clue how to do their job. Makes a fool of themselves and embarrasses the team.

The lifer, has been with the company for over 20 years. No relevant skill set to save themselves. Does well due to institutional knowledge, but is fuacked if they they get laid off.

The diversity hire. Does ok, but you can tell they weren't hired for their knowledge.

The asker. Has no idea how to do their job, and has to ask how to do their job. Pathetic loser who brown nosed their way to where they are.

The smart one, who knows everything, but is a major diickhead. Sticks around due to a superiority complex.

Notice how bad it sounds when you flip it the other way? That’s because the idea you conveyed is just as disgusting. Be better.

“The sensitive black male, aka the closet racist. Can be observed lamenting over the lack diversity training and having to be accepting of others, even though they need it the most. Refers to any non minority over level 1 as a “supremacist”.
Also frequently posts stupid things on random layoff message boards, and desperately wants to be seen as oppressed due to their blackness.
We’re surrounded by them.“

In other words…the Gen X crowd.

“The Batman….20+ years of service (but not 30+), Craft to Management, Educated, Knows his/her sh*t, engages without delay when asked, maintains and enhances relevant skills to align with business needs and assignments, Meets assigned deadlines, but flies under the radar and strategically remains silent and utilizes the STFU approach as general rule of thumb to keep from being overwhelmed in an organization that tends to overwhelm employees with action items, projects and fire drills.“

What’s abnormal is being 13% of the population but being 30% of the workforce.

The over representation just proves the point.

If you were hired or promoted in the last 3 years you are IN the Matrix and you don’t even know it.

And for the rest of us who know, you just look sad and pathetic.

“ You and your kind view minorities as less than you, not capable or worthy of high ranking jobs or positions of power, thus you decide all on your own they were hired to tick a box.”

HBCUs have lower standards for admission for a reason.

“ I’m curious but what criteria or evidence you use to determine someone was hired to check a box? That they are black or brown and not good at their job?”

I know you don’t want this to be true but AT&T has a “diversity dashboard “ at lvl 3+.

And that is exactly what we have been asked to do over the last 3 years.

It’s just facts!
Is it insulting? It should be, but yes people were hired and promoted because of the need to look more diverse.

We pay black owned companies money to pay our bills so we can say we are using a black owned business. They do nothing more than take money we give them and hand it off to another company. And they get paid for that service.

“Plenty of examples of being hired to check a box, but can’t fire them for the same reason they were hired.”

I’m curious but what criteria or evidence you use to determine someone was hired to check a box? That they are black or brown and not good at their job?

Do you realize how many white males that are absolutely incompetent have been given positions of power due to their whiteness? The list is a long as time itself. In fact I’d be willing to bet you aren’t really deserving of the position you carry based on your ignorant world views.

No, in fact, when you deem a minority a DEI or diversity hire simply because they are black or brown, that just identifies you as a racist piece of sh-t. You don’t have any enlightening knowledge or inside view of how the system works.

You and your kind view minorities as less than you, not capable or worthy of high ranking jobs or positions of power, thus you decide all on your own they were hired to tick a box. You simply cannot believe that a minority could be more qualified for a position than some fine white folks such as yourself.

Doesn’t get more blatantly racist than that. But I’m sure you’re a devout Christian and have a few black friends, right?

“ Refers to any minority over level 1 as a “diversity hire”.”

Absolutely zero evidence or work history that this is untrue.

Plenty of examples of being hired to check a box, but can’t fire them for the same reason they were hired.

The diversity scam!

The victim. Employed at T for over 15 years but took no actions to develop current skills or learn new technology, but never feels at fault or responsible concerning company performance or current working conditions at T. Is stuck with no other comparable employment option. Complains nonstop about how things are at T and is generally miserable in life.

"The asker."

Worked with a guy like this for years. Felt like others were basically doing his job for him. The best part is, almost all others were laid off, or are currently being pushed out because of RTO, and this one clown is still there, effin' stuff up, because he happened to be in Dallas. AT&T truly does have the best leadership ever, don't they?

The vagabond, hired on because of the companies listed on his resume. Little to no knowledge of AT&T's products but by God he can spin the yarn with the best of 'em (until it's time to move on to the next victim/company).

Me, the lifer who couldn’t care less about this company anymore, over stayed my welcome and can’t wait to leave. Haven’t had training in over 15 years, knowledge is obsolete and don’t care to improve my marketability. I just want an easy paycheck doing as little as possible.

The grizzled vet. The one’s who keep this company going. The ones who find a way to make it work in spite of the sh!t show management has created. They have seen it all and done it all. They are the life blood of the company. Younger employees would be wise to pick their brains while they are still around.
