Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

My Thoughts…

I’ve been out of Nike for 1.5 - 2 years now but if I were there, I wouldn’t be commenting in chats on all hands. What I would do is be leaking the comments in the chat/what was said to the press.

How this all isn’t bigger news from Powell/Sneaker News/ Oregonian is baffling. The threads on here about the cr-p show that went down at the All Hand - a pound of flesh, I've been reflect a lot and accountable to myself, just do better, this is everyone’s fault for not working hard enough, and then dozens of employees putting him on blast in the chats… that’s wild!

Remember no ‘coach’ has ever lost the locker room and stuck around for much longer.

Ready for your down votes - but those that know, they know…

Nike operates very much like a pyramid scheme. Those overpaid ELT’s are riding on the backs of individual contributors. It used to be a family, till it turned to a high school playground ran by bullies and cliques.

Those of us that have experienced this empathize with the victims. Some built entire careers stepping on others backs. The issue we all have is why is it a popularity contest? Can’t have it both ways

I was off the all hands day and now I cant play the replay, do you think hr took it down because of the chat? ELT, LT whatever mega six figure people, they are fake, selfish and very poor leaders, there is a reason for the phrase fly by the seat of your pants. I think employees need to keep voicing opinions the media has already talked down about NKE. Oh did anyone see Bain just merged with a company in India, hmmm surely JD still got his finger in that

@lgq+1rlwpDmU if you don't think the media twists the truth or people come up with their own truths from the media, you're absolutely lost. This isn't a new concept but it's easier to spread and that's just reality. Even the rumors at the office are out of hand and we work there! We're employees and don't even know 100% of the truth. I still see bad press from things that happened in 90's. The 90's!!! The difference is that Leadership took the time and energy to explain their decisions, good or bad, and their path forward.
And yes, thousands lost their jobs back then and business practices changed forever because of that bad press. Truth or not, the ones who paid in the end were us. The Elite remained. We need consumers or were out of a job. It's that simple.
This boycotting and banning cr-p has done nothing but hurt the average person by costing them their job.

We have never had layoffs due to bad press. 70% of our layoffs have stemmed from our current ELT’s inability to function in their roles.

Nike never used to have layoffs back when we actually were a family.

@fdl: with systemic bad behavior comes truth via the press. If you call the truth “bad press” my advice to you is to take a look in the mirror. What is critical thinking anymore?

Three strikes and you’re out? Isn’t there a final swing?? Well, some of us don’t give a F anymore, so let’s let the court of public opinion see just what kind of a company Nike is (versus some altruistic fake a$$ family). There are haves and there are haves not.

@fdl+1rlwpDmU I think it’s pretty clear we haven’t. And the fact that leadership never sticks around to actually take the consequences of their terrible actions and decisions.

Also are we really using that as excuse to not hold leadership accountable with the press? Get real. They’re laying us off regardless.

The phrase goes back to William Shakespeare’s play “The Merchant of Venice,” which was written around 1596–1597.

The character Shylock is a moneylender who demands a literal pound of flesh from Antonio, the merchant, as collateral for a loan.

As a very long time employee, leaking to the press only hurts Nike, and in return, hurts the employees. I've been through a lot of layoffs because of bad press. I've lost a lot of retirement and coworkers from bad press. I don't know how many lost their jobs overseas, but thousands at Corporate and Air MI over the years, with most of the press twisting the truth. Perception is reality sometimes. Remember that we do manufacture here and people outside of corporate lose their jobs as well.
All companies make bad decisions or go through highs and lows and I'm not making excuses for Leadership but no good comes from perception. I would hope we've all learned this lesson the past few years especially.
