Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

4 locations?

Has anyone heard that company is reducing to 4 places only?
Dallas, Atlanta, Middletown, NJ & Seattle?

City of Dallas is offering a huge tax incentive to move all AT&T office-based employees there by 2030. They've already made plans for a Dart rail extension to Akard Street to minimize the traffic. AT&T agreed to this, following the advice of their $1M/yr consultant.

Dallas, Atlanta, Bangalore by end of next year. NJ & Seattle local real estate already have eyes on the prize.

Two long term, very intelligent, hardworking employees in NC were let go because they wouldn't move to Dallas.

Even better...employee was let go bc he declined to move. Job opening then was posted as being in Atlanta and filled. Internal hire told he didn't have to move to Atlanta; he could stay right where he was in a non-hub city.

“ Should be Atlanta only - cheaper area to operate in and not as many corporations to compete with for talent.”
Google, Amazon, Microsoft, SirusXM, Cox, Turner, Coke, Delta, Home Depot, UPS, and many other Fortune companies with big offices or HQs in Atlanta disagree with that N2 rating.

Dallas has no talent, CEO is proof. No one can be as d-mb as this guy to watch the backbone of his workforce leave in droves and expect others to step in and know what to do. That scenario has been played down to the lower levels and we would have to train the folks that just moved into positions that they were not qualified to do many times without success. Like a revolving door but this is just 10X of that across the entire company. It's as if he is wrecking the company on purpose which leaves me to believe Stink is getting it ready for the chopping block. That is the only reason why this is happening. Best of luck to you all.

Makes perfect sense, right?
This company is doomed.

"50k employees
With 10k at 3rd line plus, 15k second line managers making reports and 100k contractors-
Good plan stank-"

This rumor would mean more than doubling the count of third lines, no way it happens.

Why not just offshore the entire Sh$t show. Bangalore real estate is really cheap.

All roads go to Dallas long run. Anywhere else is just on a longer timeline of shutdown than others. You all know it’s true. Atlanta, Bedminster, Bothel… all will be gone in a few years. They are all shadows of what they were just a few years ago.

The thing I didn't know was happening en masse when I was surplus'd years back, that yes, the company wanted to get down to par with VZ and T-Mob on employee count, but the facts seem to be in large part they are hiring many contractors to do the job when they have no other choice, whether it's overseas or, in a recent example, where E// will be the sole RAN vendor, and I would be certain over time their people or contractors will largely manage RAN, etc. It's just an accounting thing, cheaper than actual employees.

There is no "social contract" anymore, hasn't been in decades it's all about quarterly profit

“even if we moved, much of my team will still be across all 4 hubs and at different offices in those hubs. For example. I have two employees in the Dallas hub, but one works out of Plano, and the other is out of downtown. ... so it makes no sense”

All of these locations are “Dallas”. Not everyone can fit in the downtown location. AT&T has several offices in “Dallas” for corporate employees including some you don’t even know about.

Already happening under Legg, ATS, we are being forced to move or will be laid off by the end of the year. But it still doesn't make any sense, as on my team alone, even if we moved, much of my team will still be across all 4 hubs and at different offices in those hubs. For example. I have two employees in the Dallas hub, but one works out of Plano, and the other is out of downtown. And I have two in ATL, where one is in Lennox and the other is in Alpharetta... so it makes no sense, oh, and we still have a few TW... so stupid.
