Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Let us volunteer

Plenty of us would volunteer if given the chance. Why not offer it?

Age and years of service would be great but some of us would get the max severance and I’m sure they don’t want to pay that out for many, better to severance those with a few months of severance instead.

job market is dependent on skill, location, industry, etc.

@zty+1rRM1iJi Actually the job market is terrible right now, despite what your dear leader might tell you.

I worked at a company that did factor in years of service and age and offered the "retirement package" to a decent number of people. Many of them did take it. I never understood why Wells didn't offer this as they seem so eager to kick people out. Maybe they are scared of some younger less experienced cheaper hires taking the package and leaving.

Wonder if they every would consider the age+years of service.

Because the cruelty is the point.

They want to make you so miserable, after all your great service and loyalty to them, that you quit.

Because ultimately they'd rather you get fed up and quit than give you an opportunity to take severance.

I know of 2 people who have requested to be put on the "list" -- it just doesn't work like that...

They lose control of the narrative if it is open to volunteers. They can target areas right now to reduce.

because 3/4 of the US staff would walk immediately if they offered either "buyouts", "volunteers" or "early retirement".

Because way too many people would take them up on it

Why not just quit and move on if you hate it here so much? There are loads of jobs available in the market. How much severance are you talking about, a couple months? Not that much in the big picture if it is that bad for you.
