Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

2/14 article about computer use and time tracking

That’s your sign, folks… they are looking for excuses to fire you so that they don’t have to displace you later. Be warned. They’re paying attention to the time you’re putting into Workday. They’re paying attention to what you’re doing on your computer that isn’t work-related. Yes, they are even making sure you are not “using a mouse jiggler device, manipulating your stays on Teams, or modifying your keyboard.”

Just tell them you were collaborating by the water cooler all those times you weren’t on your computer.

If they have to say it out loud, it's become a real problem. You have to figure in a company this large, the number of people phoning it in is pretty large.

@1nhc the only job I've ever had in WF in 20+ years that required 8 solid hours of work was customer service. Every other job had significant amounts of downtime. That's simply the nature of work. It can't always be 100% of someone's time, especially if you want them to be a happy and healthy employee. The whole maximizing everyone's work time is a business school pipe dream.

Nothing to worry about here, I put in 9 hours of work at least per day. My dept is busy with a capital F. I don’t have time to do non work stuff.

This sounds to me like an excuse to put someone on a performance plan which may lead to termination. If you’re given work and it’s late or of low quality because you’ve been messing around then monitoring data will be used as a data point. It’s going on around the industry

It’s an article for COO people. Also, even though you aren’t in that org, you can find it on Teamworks if you look for the COO page. Thats what I have to do when y’all complain about Saul

Whatever. Depends on you job I guess. In IT I know waste more time on id--tic scrum meetings and other calls that make me snooze instead of producing tangible work. and I am now always away in teams so random scrum masters and other useless people don’t interrupt me while i try to do actual work in my understaffed team. Thanks again senior management and Chuck

Yes, operations under COO is heavily scrutinizing productive computer uses, particularly for production based employees. They are able to track jigglers, a paper weight on a keyboard, time spent in non-WF sites, etc. Turns out that a very high number of employees do nothing 30-40% of the day. This likely will lead to displacements as we right size goals and volume to increase for employees and cut the dead weight.

Fun fact every single employee can be tracked in a monitoring tool. We can see last logins, browsing history, tools installed that violate policy, and much more. Read the code of conduct.

hey @1akw - not downvoting - your post is actually very good

For those downvoting, it’s on the COO updates portion of Teamworks. I am under Global Operations.

And yes, duh. All of this is in the handbook. But they didn’t decide to reiterate it just for fun.

I have worked for WF for 20+ years. I know plenty of instances of people who have been fired for not accurately filling out time tracker.

Anyway, like I originally said… if you’re not looking to get canned before the layoffs commence, just don’t be d-mb. Months ago my LOB was made to install Celonis data mining software in our computers and the web extension on Edge. If you don’t think you’re being monitored, good luck with that.

Also, why would teams status dictate if I am working— now that we are in the office many conversations and huddles do not require us to be on Teams? Isn’t that why we are in the office to collaborate in person? Many times, I have to walk away from my desk to think about my approach to cases and scenarios- prepare my thoughts? I have always told my family if I walk out of my home office (when I used to work 100% remote) it does not mean I need to hear about household updates and/or personal information- I am still working — thinking, brainstorming, researching etc.

How could they fire anyone for not using their PC enough when we have multiple communications directly from the CEO telling us how essential it is to have in person conversations around the water cooler? In fact, those unscheduled meetings are the most important thing we do. RIGHT? Alright then. F off Scotty Powell.

I would love for them to see how little time I spend using my work PC. It'd be a great reason to downsize me and give me a year of paid vacation.

It's a 2/14 email sent to those under COO (Chief Operating Office). No one else received it.

His excerpt is language from Employee Handbook - standard stuff.

Has anyone been terminated for cause for these offenses?

Can you post the article you're referring to?

Probably LOB specific like ops or maybe for hourly people?

Hilarious when people think that their communications are for everyone. This place is huge folks.

You know we all don’t have access to the same view/materials in TeamWorks right? Would be nice if people included their LOB when posting.

Nothing new. It's all in the code of conduct, etc. in employee handbook.

And if they are tracking Teams status, it would be nice if it worked. Constantly indicates Away when on certain types of calls (it depends on the organizer and how they were set up).
