Thread regarding CVS layoffs

New to CVS

Joined CVS few month ago, can someone help me understand why there is so many lead director? Some even report under another lead director with no direct report. Is it just a title thing how banking have so many vp and avp?

It primarily stems from how Aetna jobs and salary ranges mapped to CVS' a few years ago. This was done by CVS HR. Senior Manager and Lead Director titles more commonly reflect comp rather than expertise. And it does not necessarily mean staff with such titles has anyone formally reporting to them. If internally you see (IC) after a title, it means that person is an individual contributor (no staff reporting to them).

It's just a title.

Some managers, senior managers, directors were actually part of a technical band. They were called advisors, senior advisors, executive advisors.

Several years ago they got rid of that technical band and converted those technical advisor titles into manager, Sr manager, director...etc..

When you see no direct reports under them, they were likely an executive advisor that got converted to director title

It’s the new version of the ole boys club, but Karen changed that to the ole girls club. Simply hire more and more VPs, directors, special consults this way nobody has a clue what the next guy knows or is doing. Hence the state the company is in now. But they figured out that solution just get rid of more of the bottom of the food chain that way less to question those who captain the Titanic.

The amount of people who have been with CVS for well beyond 5 years means that’s a title is given in order to keep an employee.

That seems to be the level they rise to on average.

It’s not that it’s a worthless title but it kinda can be.
