Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Lease renewal

Anyone have any experience with what to expect when ATT hasn't renewed the lease at the building you work in? Lease expires in 4 weeks.

They do lease the entire building and have been trying to lease the other half out. We only occupy an eighth of it as of now, and the announced hiring was canceled.

AT&T GRE can’t do anything in 4 weeks. Moving out and restoring the space per the lease is going to take longer than that. I highly doubt a renewal hasn’t been signed 4 weeks from lease expiration.

They will wait till the new Year so that for accounting purposes it didn't happen in 2023.
They have already overshot their budget.

Do they lease the entire building? Is it a central office (not likely)? Is real estate empty in that hood? Your question is too vague

Trying to see if we all should be concerned for our jobs as our union contract also ends at the same time.

Did they announce a surplus or forced movement? If not then you just keep reporting to that location.

There are rules to headcount reduction of union employees which varies from region to region but I think 4 weeks is a little too late for a surplus declaration in any region.

Ask the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter. I hear they have a lot of experience with not paying the lease on their buildings.

Typically most leases require a 12 month notice with intent to stay or vacate. GRE consults with the occupying business units about their needs and then determines to stay or go. This is not something that moves quickly or happens in a week, so my guess is if it really is this close to lease end either one or two things have occurred. Either GRE has renewed or extended for a certain time period, or it was not renewed and the BU is waiting for the appropriate time to notify the occupants of their plans. GRE has to have time to relocate and move people, unless they are told differently by the BU.

To everyone who commented and didn't seem to read the post, I was looking for specific examples of people who have been in that scenario. Trying to see if we all should be concerned for our jobs as our union contract also ends at the same time. So please keep in mind people's livelihoods are at stake when you reply.

Typical move by at&t. They string the landlord along until the final hour, whipsawing to get the absolute minimum lease rate. Stankey and company were indeed born at night, but not last night.

Typical, they will go month to
Month until the landlord either agrees to to terms or T moves.

Just keep showing up to the building until you're told differently.

It’s not rocket science. If they don’t resign the lease then you get moved to a different building.
