I am in mobility. We are carrying the company.

Maybe financially. You wireless techs sure don't know what you're doing though.

The discussion about fiber being wireline is ridiculous. Fiber is a wire. The discussion should be is how much work content is lost when a area is fibered. Basically one and done work unless a backhoe cuts it or it gets torn down if aerial. No Service Emergencies after a heavy rain. No teams of technicians working 24 by 7 to restore service if one is cut. No conference bridges being manned to get updates on which counts have been restored. Son lives in a apartment complex. Moved to another fibered complex. Called in for service and got a time it would be turned up. Went to closet, hooked up his router, put in a few codes and had service within 15 minutes. That is the future of wireline in most areas.

AT&T applies to end obligation to service landlines in California.

The company said in a statement to CBS13:

"Our application seeks approval from the CPUC to remove outdated regulations in California and to help the limited remaining landline consumers transition to modern, alternative services to replace their current outdated ones. All AT&T California customers will continue to receive their traditional landline services until an alternative service becomes available by AT&T or another provider."

Well then I might as well just live up to that wide paint stroke.

That is not selling it, that is just turning it off. No one is buying regulated copper facilities. We would pay to get rid of it and there will still be no takers.

It's the old TDM switches that the company is trying to shed or turn down not the back bone fiber.

It's true. Customers are receiving letters from the CPUC about a public hearing.

@1nxi+1qQpIPik,

Wireline will simply be all fiber one day, but the name will stick for a long time. You speak like someone who has third hand knowledge, some of us actually work on these things and can tell who has little experience in them.

There is no delusion. The business will change, but not in the ways you say.

“ Sigh, fiber is part of wireline. I know that is so hard to comprehend for at least two of you who post here.”

Fiber is also part of Gigapower. And if you can’t see AT&T creating a “fiber only” organization you are delusional.

No union, all management and contractors.

Once Gigapower (the company) is built out Fiber will NOT be part of what we have traditionally called “wireline”.

"That’s been the corporate dream for a long time."
No. And that is the problem. It should have been the corporate dream, along with with a lot of other copper. While I was watching Verizon dumping off their wireline, AT&T was doing nothing. And the idea that it can be dumped off on someone like Frontier - I don't think that dog will hunt anymore. For AT&T's sake, they better hope that dog does hunt.

Sigh, fiber is part of wireline. I know that is so hard to comprehend for at least two of you who post here. California isn't going anywhere anytime soon. You misrepresent facts in every post you make.

They may sell copper wireline, if possible, like Verizon did years ago but they aren’t going to sell fiber/ pipes that feed cell towers, businesses, hospitals, govt entities and consumers. Fiber has a big upside, even though it’s been around for decades now, there is less than 30% coverage. As technology and new products are created, so will the need for more capacity, speed and better latency.

That’s been the corporate dream for a long time. Too many rules and regulations make California a detriment to the company. The ROI is not worth the trouble and it is only getting harder.

And I hate to tell ALL of you employees in California, you are known company wide for being worthless and lazy.

Don’t shoot the messenger.
