Tech layoffs Yesterday

Group got hit with some tech layoffs yesterday. But we don’t want to talk about it so maybe you won’t notice when some of your team shows the Zz by their name! Guess they don’t care if the delivery date moves.

@jin+1qKbIiR2 Yeah, you what suffers when that happens right? Quality. They'll expect people to sling functionality out into production and when the sh*t hits the fan, they'll do the hands in the air shrug and damage control wondering how it happened.

Gee, we get a stupid set of rules to follow, nobody moves quickly, ask 1 question get 10 different answers.

1:15am Hi I show your currently offline. Can you confirm this is still an issue?

  • issue hasn't yet been addressed so of course still an issue - reply and wait.... an entire day later AFTER hours again.

8:20pm Can you confirm you meet the use case for approval?
*respond yes next time i'm online.... another day later after hours again...

7:59pm Thank you for your response and the approval email, can you also confirm that the details around the use case you are good for with yes/no...

*at this point I want to give up, maybe that's the point, and I have another ticket in that has also been picked up by offshore team for support. It's only going to get worse as they keep replacing good stateside support with subpar, but cheaper offshore.

Not sure about other groups, but in mine if someone doesn't delivery it's usually because of id--tic time wasting roadblocks thrown up by the executive types.

The strategy may be antiquated and disproved but it still remains the extreme motivator that the ruling elites are looking for now.

Memo to all Directors: Either cut staff to meet efficiency targets without delivery date slippage or you will be cut and your replacement will be charged with the same directive.
There will be NO exceptions! Deliver or Depart!

Even for critical understaffed initiatives, directors are being forced to cut staff to meet “efficiency” targets while being told their delivery dates can’t move. It’s an antiquated, disproved strategy that one can cut staff to force managers to innovate on producing more with less.
