Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Live comments from Legg call

I start with stating that you can sell or not renew the lease on all of your locations. There is no dependency on having people working remotely to those buildings. In fact you will save a lot of money if you become a virtual first company. So STOP closing down building to forced moving of people.

“ Because when we were hired decades ago we were promised pre-Medicare medical coverage at retirement but that benefit was cancelled I think in 2021.”
If you were hired decades ago you should remember a time of little or no competition. A copper network that everyone was on. A network where some were satisfied with party line service. A sales environment where Disney phones during the holidays or adding a line for your kids was a great present. A time that if you lived in a big college town you couldn’t get vacation when those schools opened up because of the workload. A time in which PUC negotiators were the basis for price increases. Those times are gone.

The cutback of this benefit was widely known several years back. Directors led many conversations about this critical policy change. Why didn’t you leave them?

why the Teams background? Was he working at home telling us we need to be in an office?

“ Because when we were hired decades ago we were promised pre-Medicare medical coverage at retirement but that benefit was cancelled I think in 2021. Stank actually ridiculed us for relying on that promise. So we have no choice but to work til 65 since coverage for a family is like a mortgage payment itself.”
Thanks for the response. I have really wondered why. I was thinking when that change happened in 2021 why people didn’t leave then, that was a huge cut to the benefit.

Rule of 75 means nothing anymore.

I’ve talked to people in Dallas or Atlanta. The morale is as bad as the non-hub locations.

Couldn't agree more. I work in a hub and morale is in the toilet there. Just because you aren't being forced to move doesn't mean you aren't affected by people who have to.

“ If I was rule of 75, I’d be so out of here. I have no idea why people that are there stick around.”

If I was rule of 75, I’d be so out of here. I have no idea why people that are there stick around. Do the math and see how much you will make retired vs working, if net net is very little difference, that’s what you are working for. Take the money and run before they pull the rug. I bet most will find they are only working for a few hundred $ per month.

That HR person was also a waste a time.

She got all the "what if you can't get into the office cause your puking up blood" questions and her answer was "send email to your manager so you don't get on the naughty list".

Well, my manager says they just get a list and there's nothing they can do to get you off the list so just try to pu-e up blood on weekends.

  • “Said the guy who was hired through Time Warner acquisition three years ago! WTF you know about AT&T or telecommunications, Jeremy? If Stankey leaves, you will be the first one out the door.”

Stankey leaving would be the best thing that could happen to this company.

This was garbage the last time it was posted and it continues to be, this does not exist:

"The company is worried about their local tax breaks; cities are telling them to get people back to the office to patronize downtown businesses "or else"....and I agree with other replies - morale is in the toilet no matter where you look."

Did they respond to the question about maybe allowing employees that meet rule of 75 apply for an exclusion due to length of loyalty?

he said a lot of people are in that category and waiting for them to leave naturally would take too long. (the question made it sound like they'd be here another 20 years. not like 2 years).

and of course they cant pay for 200 buildings. (so let them telework)

and not used as an answer for this one, but for every other answer, company culture requires us all working together, and grandfathering some people doesn't meet the needs of the business. (there he is with the empathy again).

Yep and his response can be summarized by a middle finger and saying “don’t let the door hit you on the a-s on your way out old timer!”

People give their entire careers to T and he doesn’t even give them lip service. What a cold son of a bi--h

Contractors are being asked if they want to be converted to employees. Hard pass for all, why would anyone want to be treated like this?

that HR person was pretty worthless.
"ask your manager"
well the manager doesn't know either

some live in fear just say no. "no you can work from home today cause you're sick. and we get audited on sick day use too, so better come to the office"

others try to be cool about it, but HR then jumps up their grill.
"why wasn't joe in the office three days this week"
and they dont have the ba--s to say "MLK day plus two days of snow so they worked from home."

And the person with the lame boss comes on here and complains about the guy with the cool boss having different rules like some sort of narc.

It’s been stated on this site ad nauseam, but is WELL worth repeating…”If their lips are moving, they’re lying. If there lips aren’t moving, they’re thinking of their next lie!”

Same, I work with people all over the company in NJ, ATL, Dallas, California, etc.
The only place I don’t work with anyone is Seattle.

Everywhere has low morale, either Jeremy is knowingly lying, or completely out of touch.

Hey guys, I know we're cutting your job, but think of the carbon footprint and how we're adding EV chargers to the hub locations.

Lol okay buddy.

I'm really happy that the top questions are making him sweat. Bi--h needs a reality check that the company morale is sh-t.
