Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Job Accommodation

I have an approved Job accommodation request to work remotely due to disability. I can't drive on highways. I'm located in Birmingham, Alabama. My occupancy indicator is WFO, my future work location is Atlanta. Do I get move notification on 25th as well? Do I need to relocate?. I thought we are protected by ADA, please advise.

The requirements for your job have changed like many other positions and you need to start reporting to the office. If unable to drive, Uber and Lyft are backup options.

You best chance is to challenge the relocation based on it exacerbating your disability. Like having to change physicians treating you for disability, moving away from your support network , etc. Since you already have an accommodation due to your disability, I don't see how telling you to move to Atlanta to work from home there would stand up if challenged.

Work accommodations have been approved left and right, I know first hand in ATL, some folks do not want to drive in ATL and had work accommodations approved. Its who you know and how good you can sing the tune.

Well hate to correct you on this but I have a coworker that's been in this exact scenario for about 8 years now. He also had to reapply for it within the last 12 months and it got approved again. No, he is not a slacker and has been working from home just fine all this time.

It seems to depend a lot on how critical you are to keeping a system afloat.

Get real, they don't care about you or your accommodation. Sorry to be blunt but it's the truth. AT&T is in a serious financial position and continues to get worse every passing day. You would be better off obtaining employment elsewhere.

If the company rescinds your Job Accommodation, they'll have to explain why to the EEOC. They will have to show why your accommodation is now a hardship when it wasn't previously.

Depends on the disability. Things like epilepsy can sometimes make driving at all impossible. ( They may revoke your DL )

Sounds like once you relocate maybe you can scheme your way into some kind of accommodation.

But remember there are thousands of roads that aren’t highways that can also get you to work.

Reasonable accommodation requests that do not create an undue hardship for the employer are all that's required. You're most likely getting that letter and will be required to move like everyone else, unfortunately. I would recommend talking to an experienced attorney to be 100% on this though. Dont take legal advice from anonymous users on the internet.

You can't get an accommodation to cover difficulties with traveling to work. The accommodation can only cover limitations and restrictions you suffer while at work. In my experience, WFH accommodations don't get approved, even if medically supported, due to hardships to the business unit.
