I know that all Teams messages are saved and they technically can access them at any time, however, just heard that messages are now being actively monitored by management. Can a manager confirm if they are able to read the messages of their direct reports? This was never the case before. Another scare tactic?

I used to do ZL review. Some of the things people send/receive over WF email was embarrassing to even have on my screen. You'd think that would be an interesting job, but you just get burned out and sad seeing how stupid people are.
Back in 2004 a coworker of mine went to a client site and chatted with his coworkers back at the office over the clients internet. His chats made fun of the manager at the client site for being overweight and called her a pig. His chats were intercepted and sent to my company’s ceo (small company) and the guy was reprimanded and never allowed into that client site. Another guy was hired and within a week fired because he complained about the company to his friends back home saying it was a company of rednecks. This was back when we used Meebo and AIM on web for chat. I learned then to be super careful about any communication using company property. I don’t even say “text me” over IM at work I’ll text the person myself offline or just call when i want to discuss something like layoffs etc.
Managers can drop into your Teams and eavesdrop / hot mic your microphone, also.
Well my coworkers and I always talk about how we should leave WF so it will be interesting if they actually see those messages

A couple weeks ago I received an email from compliance who wanted a screenshot of the conversation from MY cell phone because in TEAMS I mentioned the phrase “text me if you need me”. I was going to lunch earlier than planned. I had to provide an explanation of the context of the conversation and why I made that statement.
Absolutely. It’s called ZL review. All email & teams/Skype/ devices is archived. Always has been. There is whole department of people that does this. They sweep for keywords & flagged items for review. As another poster mentioned it’s for regulatory requirements to watch for inappropriate behavior, actions , anything of that nature. The firm is explicitly clear that they do this but yet employees still don’t believe it.

Yes Teams can/is fully monitored. Not just that but all Teams activity - every keystroke, audio, and video content is archived forever and managers/admins have powerful tools to search that historical data for any specific words, phrases, subjects, images, etc.
Assume anything on company equipment/systems is monitored -- they tell you so.
Now, chats in Teams are deleted after a few weeks (likely to avoid discovery). How long they're retained is another story but also probably not that long for the same reasons.
They're not just wi--y nilly going to monitor your chats etc. And anybody with a clue knows that doing practically anything in the company even remotely close to getting chats/emails to your manager is like an act of congress electing a new pope.
Don't talk stupid sh*t (like unethical or illegal) stuff and you'll be fine.
Yes Teams Chats can be monitored. Besides any back and forth company bashing, they look for bad players. But the other issue is that regulators can ask to see the Teams messages to see if WF employees are doing things that would trigger a regulatory action. Also speaking from experience, Teams admins can delete certain parts of the chat. So that regulators can’t discover things.
Nah, co-workers and I chat over Teams about all sorts if stuff. Never had it blow back. We talk about this site (even post links to funny ones), unions, funny jokes, etc. as long as you dont use foul language should be fine.
There is a time consuming process but if a manager is bent on monitoring you, they can get access to your entire IM history and email box. I was on a call with a manager when they did this to another subordinate. They did not have to provide a reason. Don’t say anything on IM that you wouldn’t want printed in a newspaper because even if your IM history is never looked at, the other participant in the conversation could be monitored. It’s not worth the risk.
Everything messaging wise is keyword driven but it isn't driven by your manager, and they can't just ask.. hey, can i see so and os's im's from this date to that date? Come on people wake up. But you start emailing about the unibomber, going postal, etc. They will most likely fire your ar-e. Now, if they suspect you of something, that's when they really dive down deep.
No, management is not going through your email if they want to. And quit using, Upper management' like they are the holy grail. There are a lot of hoops at WF.
I know of people who were fired because they were stupid and one agreed to sign a form for the other one on instant message and this triggered an alert which led to an investigation. Not by their manager directly, but some central team. If your phone is a BYOD your texts may not be off limits.
It's best to assume that everything you do on a company laptop is tracked and potentially monitored, from the number of keystrokes per day to the websites you visit, to all your conversations and emails. Potentially they could get alerts to their email when certain laptop parameters are triggered, such as sleep mode, no activity, etc... Starting from that position it's up to the individual on how much they let it affect their working habits.
I solve this problem by collaborating with my team at the water cooler. Of course, I'm 100% WFH, so the "water cooler chats" are texts via my cell phone.
Just IM someone to text you and you'll find out if they are monitoring you🤣

Your messages at work @wellsfargo.com have been screened using IBM technology since 2014. This screening was the basis of Wells firing some execs after the scandal.
The ims are keyword driven by whatever your manager decides. Mostly it is screening for phone, text, or other key words to alert Wells to people not using MS Teams or other approved tools for work discussions.
