Year end review/rating

Changed to a new team this year, manager obvious has favoritism in the team. I got meet in mid year review , but things has gone south since then, she hasn’t scheduled meeting for performance improvement or anything like that, seems just leaving me alone, no more 1:1 and not much interaction at all.. I don’t see reaching out to start conversation is a good idea. Will I get underperform rating for year end without any warning and opportunity for improvement?

Yes, you will be a 2. I rate all new team members a 2 to make my quota and not upset the rest of my team. The next year they are a 3, no higher.

The lower managers (in our LOB) will identify positions that can be eliminated and ultimately 2-3 up decide. It’s not the person being cut, it’s the role. Sometimes it’s both, but the team loses the headcount for that role with a displacement. Our team is even being scrutinized on headcount overseas. Our leadership wants total headcount (US & Offshore) to decrease.

I would never let my manager get away with this. I scheduled a meeting with my new manager for 1x1 the day he joined the team and set MY expectations for weekly 1x1. Thus far, unless operations prevented the meeting (30 Min), they have taken place. On some occasions they have run over an hour in length. You have some responsibility for the communication with your manager. If you schedule 1x1 or coaching meetings with your manager and they decline them, then that is something you should record in your review feedback. Take control of your career. Do not be passive.

Your manager is just another ck suc*ker. WF is full of them. The higher up a monkey climbs on a tree, the more of its azz that you see.

I’m a manager and this may be a sign that you’ve been identified for an upcoming layoff. I’ve already identified who on my team will be let go and I’m having a hard time keeping up the previous coaching discipline with them because it is pointless. I hate the act I have to put on to hide what is coming.

It's a corrupt system designed to get you to quit. Stay strong and ride it out as long as you can. Don't let those spineless managers get to you.
