Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What is the “magic day” in Jan ‘24 where they can’t pull back your bonus?

Just curious, but would like to know as I have been putting off my new employer for a bit now, although they are cool with waiting.

They can pull it out of your account until February 2. As soon as February 2 hits, move it to another account, and give notice.

I wouldn’t trust it until it hits my account.

OP here … thanks to all for chiming in. I think I can hang on until 2/2, as the prospective employer is a friend of mine, so I have a little more flexibility. New job will be a pay cut but a remote gig, so a no-brainer.

Don't jeopardize a future career opportunity just for a WF Bonus. Look at the big picture and your future. I bet you'll earn more at your new company which will more than makeup for your WF Bonus. Good luck.

Bonuses are not part of early payday.

bonus will be in your Feb 2, check. Payroll hits on Wednesday Jan 31 so you will likely see it given early pay day advance on the night of 31or Feb 1. Not sure if they could claw it back or not at that point. I guess they could if they wanted but I'm guessing it would be more trouble than it's worth. Also, not that you want to burn bridges but will you be giving 2 weeks notice and when do you plan to give it? If you have it a week or two before Feb 2 they may be more inclined to pull it back or lower it, but who knows.

It's actually a very valid answer. The only sure safe bet is to wait until it's in your account.

This is a heck of a gamble you’re taking OP. Can you negotiate your bonus with your new employer as a sign on? I did that when I left a few months ago. They gave me 80% of what I was paid on bonus from last year. I thought that was fair and I was out.

They can stop it right up to the last few hours it gets deposited

Don’t mess around. Wait patiently for it to hit your account. You don’t want to learn that lesson the hard way.

You are so lucky you get a bonus I don’t get one because they put me on hourly once I got laid off because I reported to HR someone throwing chairs during a project meeting.

Got laid off got re- hired back and they just keep me on hourly so I don’t get a bonus after 28 years, it’s really f’d up!

@gtq+1q1tzQv7 What a stupid answer? You're suppose to be helping, not making a joke out of it. Someone is seriously asking, so if you don't have an answer, do not reply.

The day pay roll for the check is processed, so a few days before bonus day

If you put off your new employer, they may rescind the offer. If you have a new employer that is paying more then your current job then start right away. In my company, when an employee leaves, managers tend to give the least minimum bonus to the employee who left. So, call HR and find out when the bonus numbers from managers need to be determined and when you would get a check for the bonus. Look at when you got your bonus check in 2022 and 2021. It's probably around the same time. Also, find out from HR how many days in advance you have to give your last day work notice. And make sure the new offer is not rescinded. Check to see if there have been layoffs on the new employers layoff.com page. Search for the new employer companies name on this website.
