Being RIF’d means I get to look for another job while getting severance pay and unemployment. It beats quitting which is what I’ve wanted to do. Colleagues who were hoping for the same were disappointed not to be on the list. Says a lot for this dysfunctional company and it’s ineffectual leadership.

When announcements happened on October 4, all the organizational announcements were on The Source by 8am. Today (Nov 8), as announcements are on-going, nothing is on The Source yet. What gives?

Most of Tech has one person doing work and 10 people telling them how to do it.

To the post below, record everything. Most states are one party. And if not, you at least have an accurate record of what transpired when speaking to a lawyer.

I think there is merit to concerns about retaliation. I was just RIF’d from a digital team. Up through last week we were being told headcount would be added to our team to support increasing demand. A senior leader made statements about doubling our team size. All of my performance reviews have been distinctive or meaningful, moving ahead, I’m frequently recognized for by Sr. Leaders for my leadership… But a few months back I spoke up about an HR issue that resulted in a Teammate Relations investigation that is still ongoing… Out of nowhere find myself RIF’d, no explanation. I don’t meet 1 single criteria to be RIF’d. Nothing makes sense, and I’m getting 3 conflicting stories from 3 different leaders.

OMG.... that's aweful! Were you terminated or laid off? In some states an employer can't rehire for the same position that was eliminated for X # of days. Company's can of course get around that by tweaking the job title but what a sh*ty thing to do!! Prayers and thoughts everyone finds new and better position quickly 🙏

"Re: the retaliation…

I noticed those laid off under the offending MD are now showing open roles in the new org chart. So their positions weren’t eliminated. I think you’re on to something. Was STAR used as an excuse to get ride of the people who made complaints to HR?"

So... I knew I was gone about a 6-8 weeks ago. Got my notice yesterday. I had openly confided in my boss that the whole purpose message is cultish, my purpose is to show up to work and make sure I perform at a high level so I have a job, and I also spoke openly about the direction our leadership was going with a lot of decisions that were made. Another individual who was let go, did the same thing. Our positions were termed as "eliminated".

I’m hearing that a good portion of the audit layoffs smell strongly of retaliation in response to some complaints lodged against a particular Senior Managing Director. Don’t know if there’s any truth to it, but based on the consistent, outstanding performance of some of the laid off teammates, retaliation completely makes sense.

It is illegal for them to target you for a RIF due to pregnancy.

For the first time I find myself irate to see good people getting let go while stagnant low life management sits in their high chairs looking down on the worker bees.

Nah son. Just you. We need you to be laid off.

We need audit to take the brunt of the layoffs, there’s too many of them. If they layoff half of them it would take the pressure off the rest of the teammates

Are you f-ing kidding me?! We are so understaffed in Audit, it’s not even funny. You’re basically rooting for people to lose their jobs. WOW.

So now the guy that was calling for RIFs of all remote employees is playing the “you don’t have sympathy for me” card. Typical loser snowflake. Wants to talk big but the minute they get called out they revert back to the “it’s not fair” argument.

Whatever you are doing, you are likely in over your head and should pray for RIF. “It’s not fair”. The mantra of real go getters. And for the record, I’m not a telecommuter. I just can’t stand childish “pull the ladder up” losers like you son.

Layoff update thread turns into a philosophical debate over RTO vs WFH. Both sides have merit, but the world has changed. Envy only divides and causes greater mental stress. Arrogance only creates further conflict. Those who are RTO’ing AND those who WFH should consider themselves lucky to still have jobs.

I got RIF’d yesterday, your squabble is petty and lacks significant moral ground. Get over yourselves.

There is no point of fighting who will get the notice, none of this is in our hand. These are not our decisions as well. Layoff is bad for both people. Let's end this discussion and make this thread only for the layoff update

The person recommending telecommuters be riffed is the personification of cr--s in a bucket.

Interesting.. I tend to agree on the fairness of remote verses WFH. If you enact a post-covid RTO policy it should be across the board to keep all things equal.

@1tu.... Let me guess you are a tele-commuter who has zero sympathy for those not privelged enough to WFH. Teammates required to commute in heavy traffic for maybe an hour or more, pay to fill their gas tank, plus the expense of wear & tear on their vehicle. Not to mention the loss of productivity, while teammates like you work in your PJs... Who is the real loser in this scenario?

@“remote employees should be riffed…”

Awww. Poor baby. It’s not fair! It’s not fair! Guess what sunshine. Things aren’t fair. The fact you are whining about “its not fair” tells us everything we need to know about how capable and competent you are. Hopefully, you get riffed sweetheart. What a loser.

So this is going to be very unpopular, but I think Truist needs to RIF all the tele-commuters first. If I have to RTO for badge swipe monitoring purposes, so should everyone else. Just my two pennies!!
