Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Annual Enrollment

This is regarding anyone who's done annual enrollment recently. Try to take a screen shot of your selected benefits for the next year. I just got a bill in the mail for the smoking surcharge and a different life insurance rate. Even after retiring I still have to deal with AT&T s..t

*why is the insurance defaulting to using tobacco products ? *

My guess is to catch people lying. If you change it to no when the answer is yes...

Had the same problem trying to change smoking and spouse defaults. There is no way to change it without calling purgatory to try to change it.

Also check spousal status. Default is that spouse has insurance through another source, so there is a corresponding charge. There wasn't a question to ask about status in the questions, so I don't know how we were supposed to be able to verify and/or change that. If you miss it, it will cost you $$$.

I hate the current system vs the old one from 2 years ago but let's be honest there are still four days you make any change you want. And why would you call anybody...just to make the changes online. It's easy.

why is the insurance defaulting to using tobacco products ? Why am I being charged/penalized for someone else's addiction and destruction of their body ? This is insanity. Passing the buck, typical of a liberal company.

Typical behavior of AT&T.

Unfortunately last couple years the smoker surcharge is defaulted to YES, so you have to make sure you select NO before selecting confirmation. If you don’t, expect to call the never never land of menu options then get introduced to Ring around the Rosie and game of pass the buck, to get it corrected.

The same thing happened to me. The Alight website defaulted to "yes" on the smoker question and I didn't know until I got the confirmation page at the end of the re-enrollment process, AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO CORRECT IT ON THE WEBSITE!!! It took me several phone calls and hours in "IVR, musak on hold, and inept rep" he-l to finally get to a person with the authority to access the website to enter a "no" to the smoker question. Could this be another stinky-stankey move to shake a few more sheckels out of the workforce and retiree community to help pay for years of brain dead M&A moves?

I had a problem with this last few years, as my husband does smoke but he’s not on my medical, so I should not have to pay a surcharge for him. HR didn’t know how to handle that scenario. OP just fyi, there is no more life insurance after retirement so not sure what you mean.

Mine worked like a charm.

There is a discussion on Yammer about the surcharges. On the summary screen hit the symbol to expand detailed charges under medical. Tobacco and spousal surcharge is defaulted to yes unless you click to change it.
