Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Nobody cares anymore

People are no longer even pretending they're doing anything. Nobody cares anymore. And why would we? Most of us won't be with T within a year and we know it. So why bother?

N O. Repeat after me, N O. When I got my letter my boss wanted me to participate in a training call. It felt so good to say N O. He was shocked.

The amount of bargained members in our Local Union has dropped from 1,200 to approximately 430 in a few short years. Morale is low, most still enjoy the work but are only doing what is required and no more. The continual layoffs, stress, micromanaging, no replacements for attrition, lack of training, added scope of work, etc.. has taken its toll on employees mental health.

On our Teams/Huddle meeting it used to be lively but now no-one talks. Our manager reads the Purpose question, the other required coverage, then at the end ask if there are any questions, comments, issues or concerns. Majority of times it’s crickets and the meeting is ended. Employees are numb and don’t care to participate. Some don’t even participate in the quarter safety breakfast or lunch anymore if or when we have one.

Yeah but what do you do if you have a micromanaging boss in Dallas and an unknown period of time before you are surplused?

When I see how much time executives waste creating acronyms for pillars and teamwork and whatever they want to call some culture that they destroyed, I know that I can retaliate with wasting as much time as they did coming up with those things.

A lot of good posts on here that sums it up. The no new ideas and no one talking in meetings really sums it up. Very few people give a cr-p any more. Everyone has been so beat down that they just go through the motions.

There is zero motivation to go " above and beyond " especially if you're non-management.

The super-tech will eventually realize they are getting paid the exact same as the fool three cubicles over who drools on themself all day long. All being the go-to does is give you 2-3x more work for the same pay.

On the flip side of this coin, the droolee has zero incentive to learn anything or get better at their job because . . . . . they make the same pay as the fool above who is doing 2-3x the work.

Any L1 working more than 40 hours a week and NOT getting paid OT, is a big timesucker. Promotions are for a$$ ki$$ers and relatives.

I am so burned out. Long commute, work 8 hours in office just to do another 3-6 hours again that night at home. So sick of being overworked and undervalued. Then getting piled on while somehow some folks seem to have avoided RTO altogether because they are the favorites. Then someone who gets to work super close to home says you are “wining,” because they can’t spell. So yeah, I don’t care at all anymore.

Exactly, why do more if you can do less. I started putting my interests and my personal life first. With latest RTO annoncement I stopped caring. I wasn’t like that before. I worked over 50 hrs a week, postponed my vacation because of some urgent project needs. Not any more. These days are over.

I went into the office today. I watched two movies on my phone, got 10k steps in outside since it was nice and took a nap in a closed door office. Probably got two hours of actual work in. As Rambo says “ they drew first blood”.

I only do what I have to. They are happy to throw more on me but that would mean that I'm doing the job of people laid off and never replaced. Some people are ok working 60+ hours to make up for the people they let go, but I'm not one of them.

They also are also now telling people that picking up the work is basically a "trial" to see if you deserve a promotion (although they like to call it a progression now) but I've seen many pick up all the extra work such that they then thought they deserved a bump but never got it. And all it did was make for more angry people.

Sadly this is quite true. I mean we’ll get on the staff meeting and it’s just silence. Nobody says anything or suggests anything. You can feel that people are scared, worried, frustrated, done?! etc. It didn’t use to be like this though. It was more energetic but today it’s almost like there’s no point to even get on the call. I love my job and I enjoy what I do but I can totally see some of my teammates leaving voluntarily and involuntarily. Big changes are coming. I just need leadership to be transparent about it. The morale has been low anyways, so cut the BS.

There was a time when I was proud to work at AT&T. Those days are gone. I guess I am supposed to be happy that I haven't been tapped yet. Regardless of how you feel about your pay, benefits, etc., it would help to feel we are appreciated. I am to beat down to care now. Pick me.

Exactamundo. Leadership created this culture and has nobody to blame but themselves. The constant yearly layoffs made me numb, and honestly, I don't care anymore. I can say many folks feel this way and are doing the bare minimum to get by, knowing the end is near. I'll keep on this way until I get laid off, I don't care anymore.

I stopped caring in 2019 when T decided to sc--w me over! Since that time, I no longer care about this company, this company's image or my job. I try to do as little as possible and fly below the radar!

Over 50% headcount reduction in next 12 months. Now that's aggressive.

I agree but honestly am not seeing a change. Most employee attitudes have been this way for a long time.

Agree with the OP. I do what I’m asked to do now. Thats about it. That’s what they pay me to do and I make sure I do what’s required, maybe just a little extra to keep my head above board. I got tired of going above and beyond and blowing it out, for what? Maybe an extra 0.5% raise? Maybe an exceeds rating that really means little. It’s not like I get paid more for ki-ling myself. Imho we need a better incentive program if they want people to do more. I’ve got enough to do already with all the layoffs and extra workload that we were told is going away with the surpluses. I guess that’s why the L3+ got their bonuses for making us do way more with a lot less. Yeah, pay me more if you want more. I’m already upside down from inflation. I’d love to have an opportunity earn more. Baby needs new shoes ya know.
