The Plan Is In Motion

There will continue to be layoffs under Stankey. And when they stop he will retire.
Then a new knight in shining armor will come in and turn everything around. They can then all agree that Randall and Stankey caused this but now we can start again. Born again, if you will.
You can see this in the stock price now. The market wants to buy in to AT&T just because it is so horribly valued. But they think there is a plan when there isn't. Regardless, remove the stink and the stock goes up.

Op is correct,
This is the reason there is nothing coming from Stankeys tenure.
He is just sitting there waiting for layoffs to cease and then will announce retirement.
This can be the only reason for such a lame duck CEO. Blame it all on him, he agrees to the blame and takes his money.
Then goes and hides out for the rest of his days like Randall

Yes you have been out of the field for a long time, if one group is low on work then techs are turfed to a busier exchange for that day. Crews are now covering much larger areas due to reductions, it’s becoming rarer to just work in your assigned turf anymore.

You will always of instances of techs working in the same close proximity because no matter how large you make a turf, there is always a boundary. They have tried dispatch optimization for years and it just doesn’t work in a dynamic environment. Now if they would only apply optimization to management, Stankey would get to his number quickly.

The market correctly values AT&T for what it is: a severely leveraged company with 3 mature to declining products in the life cycle and inept executive management that can't change it.

The first action to mitigate the product cycle was to acquire T-Mobile to squeeze out the remaining growth in the saturated wireless sector. But the CEO and COO miscalculated the government's appetite for approving the deal and triggered a colossal break up fee. The cash, spectrum, and solid executive decisions by T-Mobile turned the company into a revenue and subscriber juggernaut and took AT&T's position in the wireless arena down.

The Directv and Warner purchases were gambles to bring in new revenue and cash streams instead of organically creating them via capital and R&D spend. AT&T didn't (and still doesn't) have competent decision makers at the top and the Board of Directors rubber stamped the acquisitions funded principally by debt. AT&T assuming operational control of these companies was a disaster thanks to AT&T's bureaucracy. Years later both companies were spun off for %'s of what they cost with the debt remaining. While they both still struggle they are actually doing better than when they were under AT&T's control.

Removing the CEO would cause some short term optimism but at the end of the day, the product and leverage challenges remain. Barring a new product or market place changing innovation the new CEO would only be able to better manage the decline.
Anyone that doesn't see it is fooling themselves. The stock has been declining and stagnate for 15 years. Rightfully so.

There have been inefficiencies built into the system for years. Started out as a outside tech. Would notice another tech working a job right across the road due to the different areas built into each profile. We couldn’t dispatch into another area without permission from the other group and a center mgr having to manually change our profile. Or a field manager working futures (which was definitely inefficient due to customers not being at home). One AM group has to work OT while the other was scrambling for work. Have seen it as a Mgr with different systems, processes, etc. No idea of if this is still occurring but just a example of how the systems built in expense.

What is the news here? Everybody knows that. Most of the posts here sound like only T has layoffs.. Wake up people. We all know that T is overcrowded. The productivity per capita is the lowest among all telcos. This human resource mismanagement is being going for years. It amazes me that T is still in business. T needs new blood and new brain.
