Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Doom Loop

You all hate it at AT&T. Nobody is happy working there. You just hope you can make it to retirement without being picked off like those around you. You worry everyday if you are next and walk on eggshells.
This is no way to live and it will take a toll on you. And you won't see how bad it really was until it's over.

If T refuses to give me an early VTP to leave, then I’ll just stick around and take all the good paying money this company gives me for doing very, very little! It’s a great gig, great pay, no responsibility, easy work, very few hours.

With my knowledge and experience. I am irreplaceable. Not sure how the company will do after workers like me are gone.

I am irreplaceable, my boss, his boss, and his bosses boss all agree. I feel like I'm on top of the world. I can begin to explain how wonderful my days are, I'm a TW. I've been told I can work here for as long as I want to. I get calls everyday from other employees seeking advice and help. I feel like a wizard! I don't know of anyone else within at&t that has a job anywhere near mine, it's absolutely exhilarating.

“" I have a very high impact job that not many could do..."

Oh boy, another highly inflated ego.

Toodles sweetie!”

I could see how my post might have come across that way; however, you also don’t know what I do either. Nor am I going to say what that is other than to say, some of my work has been shared on insider and ATG on multiple occasions.

“you don't have to wait until Jan to get your bonus. It's pro-rated up to the date you leave. Then it drops in March.”
Incorrect, that’s only if you are surplused. If you leave on your own it has to be after Dec 31.

No pension and leaving soon. I’m waiting till Jan so I can get my bonus and use vacation over the holidays. Been here too long already. The pay has fallen way behind market for me so time to go. I did 9 years here and learned a good bit. I have a very high impact job that not many could do to the same level and have done a lot for this place in terms of revenue and cost reduction. Probably close to $1b (documented) by myself over my career here. No big raises or promotions in that time and I get the same bonus as everyone else so why bother.

"I’m ready to retire. Give me an offer and I’m gone."

You're delusional to think there will ever be any more offers. They don't need your blessings.

Nice summary Doom Loop author. The cuts have taken their toll for sure and I don’t know many employees who feel good right now, especially those closer to retirement. And if we have another bad quarter - more cuts will come, so let’s hope things (cash flow) increases and debt decreases as that is the giant weight around our necks as we swim these dark waters.

sad but true......waiting for the next shoe to drop and hoping you're not in the next wave of layoffs....can't have a great company when that is the prevailing culture and noone has faith in Stankey and senior leadership to right the ship...he and others should be long gone....

I use to work in the Central Office where we were instructed to close all repair ticket handoffs to NTF so we would make management happy on their charts. Now we don’t have enough CO workers and less butt kissing managers. What a great plan to please the suits!

I mean…I was ‘fine’ til they told me I had to relocate to Texas with 8% interest rates and, arguably, the worst economic conditions in a decade…

Now I hate them.

If you don’t have a pension, why are you here? I’m one year out and can’t wait for the day to take the money and run.
What I’ll never understand is anyone who doesn’t have a pension staying here.

You must be one of those lazy underperformers so "nobody" is happy when you mean you are not happy because you are going to exposed soon.

AT&T employees are like a group of birds on a power wire in the dead of winter. Stankey and HR are sitting back with their gallery g-ns picking the employees off one by one. Will you be next?

You all hate it at AT&T. - Not Stinky, he loves it!

Nobody is happy working there. Stinky is perfectly happy!

You just hope you can make it to retirement without being picked off like those around you. Stinky wants to pick off everyone - it is his game.

You worry everyday if you are next and walk on eggshells. Yep, Stink loves @sskissers

This is no way to live and it will take a toll on you. Stink is a megalomaniac, he loves to maximize suffering.

And you won't see how bad it really was until it's over. Stink only hopes!
