Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What’s with this CHG freeze?

Tech question. There’s a CHG freeze for all production deployments from last week till Nov. it’s clear that someone broke something. It was enough that Leo scurried away to to find a scapegoat. So what happened? Tech was and is affected.

Kinda wild that TK is head of WF tech, a $10B + operation of a global mega bank

TK, TB will focus on DEI and cheerleading because that is all they know. TK will avoid dealing with technology because she doesn’t understand it. Her light is still blinking on her DVR recorder , I bet. TK avoids the heavy topics because she would have to make a decision.

Can’t wait for the next townhall to hear all the distracting stuff discussed. Will TB talk to us about binary? Will we celebrate TK for her American banker award? Will RTO be discussed for the millionth time?

Or will we focus on our core mission in technology?

@bxa+1peIryvW Spot on. TK can’t walk and chew gum , has spread herself (No pun) thin with distracting initiatives like DEI, RTO, offshoring tik tok videos, , etc. Good luck focusing the troops when the message is unclear what the priorities truly are. Are we a mega bank demanding quality uptime secure operations first and foremost? Or do we waste time on the other non core stuff and let the bank’s systems and apps suffer?

Time to reassess priorities, TK.

Market volatility does absolutely play into steps like this, but this go around it’s because ALL of Tech is a complete isht show. For every one good result, there are a string of near disasters behind it. We’re in a pretty sad state overall.

To be clear I’m not blaming any one group, Tech as a process is broken.

I’m not a Wells or Financial sector Lifer, but if this is how other players in the game function it is really scary. I’ve never seen so much survival based on sheer luck. There is a weekly maintenance process that no one has input on until after the changes are already approved. Then You have to “wait for complaints” to know if things are creating issues.

We’re sunk.

There was another outage. It was small enough to fly under the radar.

Three signicant outages in the last several months. TK and her management team are so wrapped up in DEI that they forget what Tech is supposed to be focused on. Not to mention the "tell me what to do team" in India

"Officially the reason is: 'market volatility and increased customer activity volumes.'

IMHO, this is the bank virtue signaling due to the Middle East situation."

Virtue signaling? Seriously?! That's absolutely, utterly ridiculous. I personally feel d-mber having even read that.

This was the (mis)management I posted about without trying to give away internal operations details. Non-critical stuff still got approved despite the freeze targeting non-critical stuff. Thus, it was one big "middle management is important" ego-st-----g exercise.

I could say more but I value my job.

Officially the reason is: “market volatility and increased customer activity volumes.”

IMHO, this is the bank virtue signaling due to the Middle East situation.

A freeze at any time is tough. But a three week freeze (2.5 “hard freeze” + normal .5 EOM freeze) in Q4 is especially difficult.

I think its a fail due to the siloed teams that are created and gaps in process that led to a failure of a change and nobody knew it impacted them.
