Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Best tech talent cities per WSJ

WSJ had a story this week listing the best metros for tech talent. Spoiler: None of the top 10 are key WF Tech hubs. Minneapolis is the highest rated. Their new hub in DFW barely makes the list. Charlotte? Nowhere to be found.

Tech and WF really don’t belong in the same sentence. This bank is hardly on the cutting edge of anything.

Wells Fargo doesn’t need top tech talent. We’re not innovators. We’re the last to adopt new technology, not the first. We just need competent people to keep our systems up and running.

I don’t necessarily look at crime stats because those are dependent on a number of factors including reporting, convictions, or other factors that skew the numbers. I go more about empirical evidence. Have I been approached by questionable people? Do I see warning signs of making sure to lock your vehicle, keep your phone in your pocket and not walking alone? Are the stores under lockdown? Are there security guards stationed at hotels, stores and other public places? Not sure how they come up with these rates. Probably use the stats that give them the narrative they need as usual.

I would guess that truly top tech talent is not coming to work at an old school bank. So this may not be that much of a factor.

Ha!!

Minnesota has been ranked one of the top states in the entire U.S., according to a new list unveiled by U.S. News & World Report.

In fact, Minnesota ranked second, just behind Washington. Minnesota has consistently ranked at or near the top of the list since the magazine began issuing state-by-state rankings. It's the only state that's been so consistently praised.

The list was determined via ranks in such categories as health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime, and the natural environment.

Minnesota's highest marks came in infrastructure and opportunity, which both ranked among the top 10 in the country!

Yeah, we’re going into the surviving mode with winter, but it kind of makes us really strong, especially with our neighborhood and people making sure the snow is out for people that are burdened with disabilities and such!

Having our community strong through the winter months as a big deal, and we all love our neighbors.

Plus, we are all super smart, because we have the best education in America here.

Love to all! Gratitude is everything!

@umj+1pcRCx2p. Better still if you can, work abroad where there is cheaper housing.

Blue or red, WF, and all other employers in the country will still fire you to replace you or outsource you.

"People are fleeing to red states for a reason."

... and making them more blue in the process.

I agree about WFH. That is absolutely better for all concerned.

But if WF is going to insist on RTO and hubs for Tech, they are going to be stuck with mediocrity given where they've chosen to hub.

I wouldn’t put much stock in an article like this. More rah rah for the author’s favorite places.

WFH gets you the best tech talent by far. Want to live in Silicon Valley and pay $1M for a total dump of a house? Cool. Want to live in the boonies in a trailer with a leaky roof? That's cool too. Burbs with a white picket fence, a dog and 2.5 kids? Sure, NP. Flexibility is king. It's the information age, and there's nothing less important than location.

Funny thing is most of the tech talent is in blue states: SF, SJ, Boston, NYC, SD, LA, all in the top ten. Austin is the only top 10 in Texas and red Texans think that's a foreign enclave. Atlanta does OK. Red states are cheap, but after living in the South, I was glad to move back to Cali.

I am not a big fan of saying red states or blue states, but @ekx+1pcRCx2p is 100% correct, Minneapolis is really a shithole. You might want to check some MN news to see what's going on out there. The same goes with Seattle, Portland, San Fran, New York and other super liberal cities.
