Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why does our union allow so many jobs to be sent overseas?

I’ve paid my monthly union dues for decades yet I’m harassed by employees in India, Mexico and Slovakia all day every day. If I need computer or application support I again have to call overseas. Our customers complain because of overseas employees and our union just keeps taking our money. What am I missing? Are there just a few craft titles the union will support?

Bcs they work harder, longer and they support every timezone without hesitation.
And yes, they cost T 1/4 and more

The "Union" doesn't give any damn about employees or Americans.

As long as they are getting their dues, all is good.

They are as greedy as the company.

“ Why does our union allow so many jobs to be sent overseas?“

Here we go again.

They don’t allow it.

They don’t disallow it.

They have no say in it whatsoever.

Why don’t people understand this?

…because all we ever hear from the U management team is how much good they do for craft, how every single good thing was because of them, how they bend the T management team over their knee & wh!p them into submission, how strong and powerful they are, but as soon as T shows 1 ounce of flex, the U management team issues the default statement: “we can’t do anything about that, it’s their company, that’s not within the bounds of the contract,…”

Stank would love a long strike. The company saves a ton of money not paying salaries.

In case you didn’t notice but there has already been a great reduction in head count for bargained over the last several years. Some areas are operating at skeleton crew levels only because the Company leadership has all but dried up fiber projects and capex last 1 1/2 yrs to meet Wall Streets free cash flow number. When they turn the spigot back on there will be more work than bargained can handle, there is a large take rate on fiber and it’s growing, ARPU has a lot of room to grow for the future. Only approximately 30% fiber coverage, probably 40% more growth because other products will cover the areas not financially viable.

Mobility is upgrading to 5G but they are a commodity now, carriers are just scavenging each other customers for growth, it’s all about ARPU for future growth.

Get over it already! There will be no strike in 2024 and ATT knows it! The union is powerless against T, the economy is in a tailspin thank you Buck Fiden and it’s an election year next year, too many X factors! T doesn’t care if you strike because the replacements are in place and ready! The, those positions will be permanently replaced by vendors. Good luck striking!

The difference between T craft and Comcast, UPS, & UAW workers is that they are actually needed. Half of T craft isn’t needed. We don’t have the FAFO bargaining power that some want you to believe.

Hope some of these know it all, legends in their own mind managers on here get an opportunity to climb a pole, ladder, work in a manhole, pit, attic or crawl space, when we strike. Last time I saw contingency training a bunch of the weak, fat a$$ managers, couldn’t even get the ladder off the vehicle without help, let alone how to use climbers. They didn’t have any clue how to do the job or troubleshoot, they were great sitting on their a$$ watching training videos though, Pitiful! Some were the same ones that were harassing techs for not being fast enough or making the “bonus” dashboard green checkmarks. Karma is a beech. Get your candyazz ready!

Feel sorry for the competent managers and techs that have to put up with the id--ts.

More company trolls, stay in your lane.

Job titles come with job descriptions, some have been around and basically unmodified since the 40’s. The company can’t just create new ones or change them for any bargained work without following the contract or have ongoing negotiations, including movement of work. Most contracts, especially the Core have a lot of negotiated articles governing wages, work rules, PTO, sick time, disability, pension, surpluses, job titles/skills group, job transfers/force in balance, temps, seniority, SIPP or VTP and many other rules/agreements that pertain to employment and benefits.

There is a very good possibility of strikes happening next year if the company doesn’t bargain in good faith during negotiations, they are ready. Employees living standard and benefits have declined greatly over the last couple of decades. It has been accelerated due to super high inflation over the past few years so, wages, COLA, 401k match, healthcare, job security will be at the top of the list during negotiations. When bargained labor wins so does management below the C-suite, anyone that can’t see that is blind to the facts. If you don’t believe it then compare compensation packages with your peers in a non-union shop, like Comcast.

Unions have been in decline over the past 70 years, a lot has to do with companies lobbying legislators and getting passed new labor laws. Those that were passed made it much more difficult for workers to unionize and there was also the passage of “right to work”. There has corruption within certain unions in the past but most of that has been eliminated in today’s version. Recent embezzlement corruption within the UAW resulted in criminal charges and by-law changes so that members get a direct vote for their president and officers. You see what impact that had on recent negotiations and strategy with their new contracts. According to polls, the majority of Americans and 88% of people below the age of 30 are in support of unions. With globalization and the elite’s two tier class structure has resulted in more people wanting a voice at the bargaining table to negotiate fair wages, benefits, working conditions and sharing of the profits. They are weary of the vast majority of the profits going to shareholders and executives earned from their skills and labor, while they are struggling to live.

Politics and lobbying politicians is another side of the equation that companies try to use against having a union. Yet they pay lobbyists and give campaign money to win favor with legislators so they will pass laws for their benefit, hypocrisy. Unions should have to stay in their lane and only be allowed to lobby about work, labor, benefits, safety and not cultural issues. Unions need rules, regulations and oversight so they don’t become all powerful or corrupt too. They need to act in their members best interest as a fiduciary and work in partnership with the company to succeed.

This sounds like an idea an AT&T Director would pull out of his/her azz. There would be Power Points and meetings galore. It would rival Air GIG.

$3000 annal pay for tech support in India vrs $3000 a week for a tech in the states. We got a snow ba--s chance in he-l of surviving globalization, best we can hope for is the stock we’ve been pi----g away into for decades becomes worth something again when globalization and automation take over.

We need to leave CWA and join Teamsters! You see they get things done!

That's because they're willing to strike.

Companies can create new titles and move work wherever they want as long as they abide by the current contract. Most contracts only dictate wages, hours, other compensations, and how surpluses are handled.

If CWA was willing to go on long term strike they could try adding additional language to cover work movement out of state or country, new titles, etc.
