From now on all RIFs are effective immediately

No more termination dates. The day you are notified is the day you are terminated to mitigate risk. - Source: Notice sent from Chief Risk Officers desk

No change to severance benefits, you still get paid for 30 days worked after you turn in your laptop. This just means you don’t work the rest of the week after you are notified.

Highly likely? I don’t think I have ever seen anyone due severance do anything untowards to the company. It’s mostly the salespeople and account officers that you have to be worried about customer lists

Being terminated does mean you lose the access to all internal systems but does not mean you won’t stay on the payroll for 30 days in the severance guideline.

OP please clarify which notice period are you mentioning or actually it’s both lol

In past companies, who offer severance, this is how it was done. You get notified and account disabled in the same call. The risk being that a laid-off employee given 30-60 days is highly likely to damage or steal within that time if not locked out.

People here don’t understand WARN, it doesn’t apply to Truist. It’s meant for small companies that don’t provide severance packages that just dump employees on the street.

Excellent, we are expected to give 2 weeks notice but we get none. Love the culture that Truist has created. Good luck attracting talent if/when they hit good times.

Im not talking WARN or any other external policy, I was just asking about Truist policy.

Historically, when you were notified of the RIF, you were given 30 days "notice" (in the same way you would offer a 2 week notice to an employer, for example), in which you could look for an apply for internal jobs. This is clearly stated in the current Severance guidance. Often, depending on job/role, folks would be asked to work for 2 more weeks (as an example) to transition their current work and then the 30 day "notice" started. Its almost like an additional month of severance, but not paid in lump. If you didnt find a role internally, at the end of the 30 days, your severance payment would execute and you would be officially terminated.

The OP isnt clear, but reads to me like the 30 day notice period (i.e. extra month severance) is no longer being offered and you go straight to terminate. This would certainly be unfortunate for folks as ever little bit helps in a scenario like this.

Would love to get actual clarification; I could certainly be interpreting OP incorrectly.

Good luck to all.

I believe that 60 days notice is only required if the layoff triggers a WARN notice. WARN requires that laid off employees must be kept on payroll for 60 days even if they are walked out the door. WARN varies from state to state so don't take post this as gospel. Google WARN for your state for more details.

The current severance guidelines mention a 30 day notice period. This is the time when you can look for jobs internally. Is this what is going away?

can you clarify further, if possible? It was my understanding that, when you were rif'd, there was a 30 or 60 (sorry not sure) day period where you were technically still employed and you could look for internal opportunities. If you didnt find one, then you severance was payable at the end of that period. Is that period of time going away? Or, is it that instead of having you work a notice BEFORE that period starts, that period of time will start immediately? If its the former, that significantly lessens the severance benefit (if you want to call being fired a benefit lol). Thanks!

I agree that given how disgruntled many people seem it’s important.

Personally as a veteran of the workforce, I know to never burn a bridge no matter how bad you want to.

This isn’t Wendy’s

What about those who were already RIFd but continue to be paid until a certain date?

Same day layoff is standard. You think they care whether you and your family can eat?!?!?
