Rescinding an offer

Is it normal for AT&T to rescind an offer a week after somebody accepts? With no reason provided. I haven't heard of something like this happening, but a friend swears this happened to his cousin. Not that it would surprise me if this were true, I just haven't heard about it happening.

Yes, if they found out he was a straight white male.

My initial job offer was rescinded but then was reinstated with other details. For me it was a "technical" problem (not surprising coming from AT&T). But if it could be pulled back, it just as easily could have not been reinstated for some other technical problem.

If true, It wouldn’t surprise me at all. They cancel job reqs all the time for bargained after they have been posted. Some out state areas are notorious for doing it, some only want locals or a specific person to have that position. Area Managers use to be King/Queen of their turfs, now it’s the Director.

They have done this before and will again.

I personally know someone who had this happen in 2020. They even sold their home and bought a new home in the new city and T turned around and changed the plan.

I know a guy whose cousin's grandmother first removed neighbors son has a friend whose dad's uncle was given an offer and had it taken away.

I'll take things that didn't happen for $500 Alex..

Background check or surpluses. That cousin would never tell you they failed a background check.

Tell your cosusin's friend's sister-in-law's kid's best friend's uncle that he dodged a bullet, and is so lucky he should buy a lottery ticket.

"a friend swears it happened to his cousin ..."

I'm not calling you a liar, because doing something like this is absolutely something T would do, but when I see/hear that, I'm immediately skeptical

Found out he had too many tatoos once they looked at his Facebook/Meta site.

If you are really a friend, you should have provided a warning in advance about T's instability.

Happens quite a bit. Your friend’s cousin should be relieved.

Absolutely. Often times it can mean that group maybe impacted with layoffs in the very near future. I have seen it happen due to pending layoffs.

Budget cuts

Our team was hiring a replacement. Then a hiring freeze before the new person started. The offer was rescinded. Then we were cut/surplussed a few weeks later. We suspect the new hire was part of the cut.
