Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I understand why all the Layoffs now

Pre SBC days in my RBOC, even us lowly Union employees every year used to get a bonus that amounted to two weeks pay. It was very nice to have around the holidays. This time around we get a whole sum total of approximately $167.00 and that is pretax. This indicator shows what bad decisions and greed will do for you but hey thanks for buying 2 weeks of fuel for my vehicle to drive back and forth to work, it is better than zero and I haven’t been surplussed, yet!

Till next year, here’s hoping for $175, if they can spare it.

" CWA talks a good game while allowing combo techs, low raises, small 401k match and higher medical cast. It’s time for a change! "

CWA also allows contractors to work alongside Union members doing the exact same work for much higher pay. My own team is evidence of this practice.

Change unions, the Teamsters are much stronger and will get you a fair contract, unlike the CWA who is in bed with AT&T. CWA talks a good game while allowing combo techs, low raises, small 401k match and higher medical cast. It’s time for a change!

Office folks got nothing. Except more beatings, layoffs constantly with only a 2 week notice, RTO, forced unpaid relocations, oh and we only get 2 weeks of severance per year of service max 6 months, no overtime pay but are expected to work a ton of hours all the time, responds to emails nights and weekends, etc. And no, we don’t get paid enough and haven’t had any significant raises in forever. Why am I working here again?

You know if anything is based on our stock price, then based on our stock price (for years) you know what the outcome of that will be. Negative!

At least as a “lowly Union employee” if you have met the retirement age/service requirements and take VTP you are eligible for up to 2 years pay when you leave. That’s definitely a bonus that not everyone gets, many only get up to 6 months pay regardless of age/service.

The total value of the 2023 SSP award is $166.50.

Nice! That'll buy me a few pre-paid sims to prank call the execs.

The total value of the 2023 SSP award is $166.50.

Here’s how we got to that value:

We calculate the total value of the annual SSP award by multiplying the total number of success units (150 for everyone) by the combination of increase in stock price and dividends declared.

From Oct. 3, 2022, to Sept. 29, 2023, the AT&T stock price declined, resulting in a $0 increase for the stock price component of the calculation. In that period, dividends per share were declared 4 times, totaling $1.11. It is based on dividends of $0.2775 in December 2022 and March, June, and September of this year.

The resulting calculation for the 2023 SSP award is:
150 success units x
($0 stock price increase + $1.11 dividends) = $166.50

We got a $1000 bonus via class action lawsuit here in the west. They tried to su---r employees with two smaller checks up to a year ago.

???? Lowly L1 manager. Once I got $25 Amex card from the company for Christmas. Once I got 2 AMC movie tickets from my immediate supervisor. Otherwise nada. Except for Stankey's "Its my first Christmas as your CEO. Here's your lump of coal" in the form of losing medical in retirement, employee discounts in retirement, loss of 1 week of vacation, and 20% reduction of company contribution to my pension. Ho ho ho

Getting rid of unneeded workers.

Yes we are. Especially the ones that card swipe into a building and leave from the same building each day. You know who you are and AT&T will soon cleanse the payroll of you.

The executive team always gets 100% bonus no matter the stock price. Thanks Board of directors for protecting the shareholders. Remember who you work for.

Since all the contracts are divided up, there are tweaks and minor differences in them. Some get a $1,000 signing bonus when the contract is ratified, D3 Core in the SE doesn’t get one, they say it’s in the raise, NOT. Our scrawny yearly raise is about the same as the rest but we sometimes get a small bonus if the stock does really well. Sometimes nothing, so there is that.

Most times it’s just a lump of coal and told if we don’t like here then go work somewhere else. Believe it or not, it’s a real team building morale booster when we hear those words from leadership. We feel inspired, valued and ready to live our “purpose”.

It’s tied to the company stock price, which is an anchor so don’t feel bad, you aren’t missing much. Some years I think they reverse bill us when it drops too much, to help with their fuzzy free cash flow math, lol.
