VMWare Horizon Client

We've heard a lot about VDI and Wave (ultimately no laptops furnished by WF etc.), but I'm wondering what exactly the VMWare HorizonClient install does to our current work laptops.

I realize we don't have a choice in whether to install (only have a couple deferments to installation time), but am wondering if something significant will take place in remote working once installation takes place.

Again, fully realize I'll have to buy a "burner" laptop eventually to work remotely, if I'm still employed at WF.

Tech person here. Never ever, EVER co-mingle any personal device with VDI or "PAD", unless you are able to throw the device into a bulk shredder at any time, with no impact to your personal data. Period.

A few weeks back, there was a big Wave snafu and many many people couldn’t get into wave until about noon, even though we were in the office. The only saving grace was that we had Teams on our laptops (outside of wave) and could access email via owa. Pray tell how that will work when we go to thin clients, wave goes down for several hours, and we no longer have a laptop with teams to join calls.

VDI/Wave in its current form is dead.

They are rushing in a new solution created by Microsoft, for whom Scharf serves on the board of directors.

The install its-self doesn't do anything to the laptop. The secondary steps performed by technology turns the laptop essentially into a kiosk for a vast majority. All you can do is launch the WAVE client. There are no other icons, inputs, etc, available.

@bgz+1pCshlK4 They’ll know if you’re in the office or not based on badge swipes. My campus has already installed the thin clients. So you’ll have to go through that in the office.

Tech is so fundamentally scattershot at Wells that your path to least resistance or least inconvenience is good enough.

Why buy a burner laptop?

Simply get an Azure Virtual Desktop that you remote into, then use it to connect via Wave. Sure it'll slow you down a hair but there's no way WF will know where you're logging in from and no way they can compromise your personal machine.
