Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Bad managers flourish here

Managers with horrible employee surveys are still here years later. I used to work with a manager who was miserable to work with, played favorites and had no respect for the team. Made us sit in meetings all day because they loved the sound of their own voice.

Of course this person had awful survey results, and the solution proposed by this manager was to have MORE meetings where we had to listen to this person talk about everything they did for the team because they wanted to be more ‘transparent’ and ‘solicit feedback’ but they’d cut down anyone who spoke up.

Years later, I was talking to an old colleague this manager is still here allowed to be a manager terrorizing their team.

There are so many directors and senior managers with none or just a few employees reporting to them. I work with many and do not see the level of commitment and aptitude one would expect. Instead of focusing on moving this bank forward they are constantly coming up with busy work and wasting talent and resources. I can’t tell some of them can’t believe they have made it this far on so little!

Bad managers flourish here because the top management is corrupt to begin with. These bad guys in the old boys club protect each other. This kind of corrupt culture is very difficult to fix.

These bad apples also keep moving around among Bank of America, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, and others. So the banking industry as a whole seems to be hopelessly corrupt. You all might want to consider looking for a new career in different industries. I am doing that now. But make sure to do the due diligence because I don't hear good things about companies like Microsoft, Amazon or some others.

Look, HR has its own set of problems. Trust that things are not going very well for the dedicated employees who work in HR right now.

I had a feeling, something bad was going on within HR, and you've just confirmed my suspicion. Well, if that's the case, Wells Fargo truly has no hope as an organization. I got to get out of here.

In HR, bad managers routinely promoted other bad managers. Loyalty and the ability to protect each other was prized over ability, integrity, and professionalism. This had the effect of driving away good employees and those who aspired to be good managers. Given that this happens in HR, it shouldn't be any surprise that HR allows this to happen in the LOBs.

All the stupid ideas from the last half decade have been from newcomers like Shart and SP.

One solution may be to dismiss every manager with 10 years plus and 10 or more employees. Why does it take so long the drive out corruption and meritocracy?

That's ALWAYS the results of bad surveys. Torture the team until they wouldn't date complete one again. It's literally the only trick up their sleeve. The exec types never ever make any attempt to un-F themselves. No, the answer is just to F with the plebes until they shut up.

Worked for a former PM from Lowes in CMOR. That person had no business being a manager. She was sadistic & played games & was full of herself. Thank goodness she got "centralized". She & her hubby can't be laid off due to certain factors.

Agree. I probably should feel fortunate that I’ve had a few decent managers over 20+ years. Sadly, those managers were many years ago!

Many people who have no business managing anything or anyone get promoted and thrive at Wells Fargo. This is because these narcissist individuals are really good at hiding their weakness and flaws and deceiving their superiors. Not enough nor adequate accountability for management.

AI will replace most of these people in the next couple of years. They are nothing but an order taker. Look what has happened in the fast food restaurant industry.

So, your bad manager means 1,000s of other managers are bad too?

Yes. I worked for a guy just like that. I’m out now, gratefully retired, but he is still there, pushing 70, still holding multiple redundant mandatory meetings every week with no purpose apart from letting him enjoy the sound of his own voice.
