Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone else confused by those doing more than the bare minimum?

I get my assigned work done and then log out after the required 6 hours in office . Why would I do more for a ‘meets’ and pathetic raise/bonus? Hard work is only rewarded with more hard work around here.

Wells Fargo indeed has lots of deadwood executives and deadwood managers.
During our leadership meeting last year, some VPs expressed concerns that they didn't have enough work to do each week. Then the SVP guy told us that we just have to make us look like we are busy so that we can secure the budget for the next fiscal year. This is a true story. I left that group and moved to a different team because I couldn't stand working with those guys. No wonder so many employees at WF are unmotivated because the leadership is corrupt.

So you missed the part about going elsewhere to pursue your true passion. Got it.

I've been leading the fight against Hudson Yards bullsh-t since day one. If you've ever read a post that said "FHY" or "everyone at Hudson Yards should be fired, every last one", that was me. That said, I don't work for them and being a worthless employee would do nothing but burden the people I work closely with with extra work. They don't deserve that. If I stop working, Charlie wouldn't even notice. He doesn't give an S, and that feeling is very mutual. He's not the reason I work hard. I worked hard before him and will after him, presuming he doesn't axe me. Regardless, he's a non-factor.

Why do you think employees are saying these things? IT'S BECAUSE OF THE CORRUPT TOP MANAGEMENT AT WELLS FARGO. Nobody is motivated to work hard in this kind of toxic environment where hard working employees are constantly punished and dishonest executives are rewarded for stealing millions of dollars. Get real!

Greatness has never once been achieved through bare minimum effort. Seriously, if every human being in history thought like you, we'd still be dwelling in caves, wearing animal skins, and dying violently & young.

I get that there needs to be balance in one's life, but intentionally and constantly doing as little as humanly possible in order to just get by is truly a disservice to your own potential. None of us were born to do the bare minimum. We've been blessed with capabilities that should not be wasted. I fully agree that some people should not be in this field or working for this company at all, because their passion is elsewhere, and such people should go forth to be productive in their field of interest, but for those staying constantly half assing your work is a disservice to yourself. In the grand scheme the company doesn't care and you're not really hurting them. You're only hurting yourself.

Because all we have is our reputation. My teammates use to ask me why would I work so hard. When I was ready to leave I just had to let it be known that i was ready for a change. I apparently had a network that i didnt know existed. I had a reputation of quality work. I was recommended to a position outside of WF, given an interview immediately, offered a job within days. I did not have to start over with my pto. Everything else was matched except I did get a salary generous increase. WFH is written in my job offer. Throughout the whole process my reputation and work ethic was referenced.

Scoring the 'Golden Ticket' was the best thing that happened to me. Getting paid for a year+ and collecting unemployment will be making my retirement all that much better.

I had been working very hard, went above and beyond, successfully completing a lot of work, receiving a lot of praises and appreciation from the colleagues. But my hostile manager started making up unsubstantiated fake accusations in my performance reviews. I kept tons of notes and emails for my records. But my manager continued the unsubstantiated fake stories 6 months later. So I filed a complaint via Ethics line and also included all of the evidence emails. According to the Ethics line associate, my manager denied making such fake stories. Then I asked the associate if he opened and read all my email evidences. He said he did not have the time to read those emails because the Ethics line is swamped with hundreds of complaints every day. Two days later, I received an email from Ethics line, saying the case closed.

No matter what we do, it seems that we can never win around here. The management of this company is deeply corrupt, to the point it cannot be fixed any longer. So I am not confused, I will never again try to waste my energy at Wells Fargo. I will either find a new job or receive my severance package, whichever comes first.

@1rfz+1ooxUOCV. I mean this in your best interests. Sounds like they are trying to manage you out & replace you with people in India. Time to jump ship. HR will do nothing. Keep tons of notes in case you need them & confirm everything via email & print it off for your records.

I was promoted at mid year with a pretty decent raise for going above and beyond. It’s likely one of two things: you think you’re better than you actually are, or your leadership team stinks. Both can also apply.

I've given over 20 years to this place. Use to go above and beyond. Use to be recognized for it. Got "centralized" few years ago and now have management that keeps changing our tasks, goals whenever they feel like it. Got my very first "needs improvement" at midyear for not meeting goals not on my development plan and not meeting tasks supposedly verbally communicated during a meeting when I was on PTO (with no agenda, notes or recording). Have managers that are "well I said X, Y, Z in X month" and it's my problem I didn't hear it when on PTO. Anything in writing is just knee jerk reactions and made up tasks/deadlines. In that moment of my midyear I decided to give the bare minimum. I don't even fix the shoddy work done by our team in India. Management decided to have a larger staff there... Let them be accountable for it. Have also opened a case with HR, although not expecting anything to come of it.

I spend more time applying for jobs externally than I do on my WF job. Is sad to see this company I use to enjoy working for become such a disappointment.

We are all hamsters on a wheel, working hard and getting nowhere.

Charlie and his cronies on the other hand, making $ millions by just laying off hard working people.

@1kyk being taken advantage of isn't "work ethic," and it's not something to be proud of. Your parents raised a fool and a coward.

@1kyk just because you want to ki-l yourself making some other people rich doesn't mean we should want to.

Some of us were raised to have or innately have a strong work ethic. Plain and simple. There is something called personal pride. Self respect for a job well done. (Perhaps your parents didn’t teach that.) Others will do the least amount they can possibly do, make mistakes, brag about how they don’t follow the “rules” and look down on those who have a solid work ethic. I don’t care. I work for my own standards, not others. I’ve been rewarded with generous raises and bonuses. And I’m about to receive a most generous and well-deserved severance.

@1szi They didn't complain at all, though? They made fun of you for not being smart enough to realize you're also not getting promoted. Pretty slow, 1szi. WF isn't hiring the best.

@lvp I had years where I did the same amount of work as the rest of my team combined, you know what it got me? The same measly raise as everyone else. Pay for performance doesn't exist, just look at Charlie's compensation for accomplishing jack.

The only chump is the bootlicking dork who is going to be very surprised to learn that at the end of the day, he too will get a "Meets" for all of his hard work, while the smart folks get the same benefit without busting our tails and kissing up like like a spineless loser

@aox+1ooxUOCV The slackers make it easy to even appear to be going beyond the bare minimum. If all they can get is a Meets and their 1% raise then question why when they half-azz it, it’s definitely a them problem. Chumps

Who at Wells Fargo is getting promoted? Most individual contributor hit a ceiling and there is no room to grow. Or you do well and earn too much money so you are replaced by an offshore worker for dirt cheap.

Why should anyone leave? You know that the whole criminal c-suite is literally trying to force attrition with RTO and low incentives so they can cut headcount yet don’t have to pay anyone out right? You’re doing exactly what they want. Cash those checks and do the bare minimum cause that’s all u get in return

If you are not a manager, you are just a hamster on a wheel.

A Manager, by definition, is a decision maker, who is dishonest, lazy, arrogant and greedy. Basically they behave like politicians in Washington.

Do you think working hard every day under those narcissists will get you anywhere? Your hard work means nothing to them. Remember, the company's financial resources are very limited, why would the privileged managers and executives want to share their power and wealth with lowly employees?

The raises are pathetic and after you get promoted to essentially a terminal position like Lead Software Engineer there’s no point to go above and beyond. The reward is not there
