Can you get unemployment if you get the severance?

If this is a typical DSG layoff (every 3 years!) it's 3 months severance for ICs and managers, and 6 months for Directors. COBRA is horribly expensive for family coverage, and they don't care. Looks like they took a HUGE write-off for severance packages this year - they knew they were going to do this months ago. The same happened in 2020 - rumors started in January BEFORE the pandemic hit...those layoffs were not COVID related, even though they tried to push the message that way.

The PA Supreme Court has made restrictions on non-competes in Pennsylvania that are pretty significant. The employer has to be able to show how such clauses are required to protect a legitimate business interest which can be difficult.

Still no letter to my email. Wtf is wrong with these people I’m so upset

Was the non-compete carved out as it's own section and clearly specified specific retailers? Feel like I'm not seeing that in my agreement.

Evidently theft is the reason why financials have dropped. Nothing to do with anytime you go into a store they never have inventory of popular items and sizes.

If so much theft is going on in stores (which of course it’s not) then maybe it’s store associates and LP people that needed let go.

Liars.

Read your paperwork, especially deadlines and non-compete agreement (can't work for amazon, target, kohls, etc for a year).

Heads up, you probably only have until Sept 1/termination date to spend any remaining FSA money.

If you saved money in your FSA account, you can use it on things like prescriptions, medical/dental/vision exams, rx eyeglasses/sunglasses, sunscreen, bandaids, painkiller, etc. FSA benefits expire sooner than medical/dental/vision coverage. Try to use your benefits before they expire.

It's always someone else's problem. I was there when there were no bonuses paid. They never acknowledge the problem. The prices are too dam high

I’m sitting and waiting for my severance info to come to my email today. Let’s just stretch this out as long as possible. When do I get my desk stuff? Turn in my computer? No clue what’s going on

Yeah, right, retail theft.

Got let go at the worst possible time. It su-ks because I truly loved my job and role. Looking back, there were a few warning signs. My boss made a joke last week on team meeting we may wake up to an email he is retiring, then multiple meetings I had were being canceled. I had been prepping one event with boss for a while now and he wasn't getting back with the needed info last week, either.

What was everyone's severance?

What are you doing today? I'm still in shock 🤣

Was being bullied by upper level management. Not surprised I got let go, was being targeted. Not one time did anyone try to help. This place does not care about their employees as much as they like to pretend they do.

I was there a long time, older than 40, was paid less than people who started after me, had no stocks or bonuses. I wasn’t making management money or anything close. Fu-k that place

It’s ridiculous and insulting to create new jobs/post them and fire all these people. There had to be jobs they could have moved in to. I’m sure not everyone got paid DM level money so it’s not just that they were paid a lot.

Having been a part of DSG's terrible processes, who is let go is sometimes a last-in first-out situation, and sometimes it is performance-related. But it is absolutely normal that older, more experienced associates are let go due to the higher salary grades, stock plans, retirement benefits matches, and bonus packages (which are hefty). I hate seeing people be let go in such a sh#$%y way, but I do enjoy that the stock is taking a massive hit today. Terrible company.

They laid off multiple new hires who were under 25 years old who were in the development program, not just people over 35. It feels totally random though, the one of them I knew was great at their job

Completely shocked by who all got it in my location. Kept the stupid, got rid of years of knowledge and dedication.

They claim is was about 250. That’s a lie. Not sure the correct number but they will never admit it so if it was over 500 they will get away with it. Also they will get away with specifically firing people over age 35 because that it considered too old to them.

Exactly how many full time workers were laid off without 60 days prior notice? If it was 500 or more, that's a violation of the WARN Act.

They claim they got rid of 250 people. Lies-it was way more than that. They don’t want to look bad. Ohhh it’s only 1% of the workforce-sure if you count the store employees into the total. Stop opening costly HOS stores and other stores. Hoping for the downfall of this place.

DSG shares fell 20%, today, on earnings report!

More and more this layoff is looking like a desperate act that failed to pay off and robbed the company of top talent.

Any lawyer recommendations for the papers we are supposed to get? Of course I’m broke now. Still haven’t gotten them emailed yet. Where are we not allowed to work due to the non compete since I don’t have them yet to read. Please give some examples thanks

Over the age of 35 is too old at DI-KS. Rather have a 50 year old than a spoiled brat 22 year old d-mb mtp that knows nothing. They need sued.

It makes me slightly happy watching the stock price fall this morning. Today is a bit of anger and tiredness. I really liked working there. My manager and team was great and I learned a lot from them. All I can do now is put Dsg in the rear view mirror and look out the windshield to the future. And I am having a lawyer look at the non compete because duck them.

Still no email as of 7 53 this morning. The age thing could be something to look at but my guess if you accept the severance you loose your right to sue. I can ask a good friend about it

Media is reporting on earnings. Not a good quarter. Business overextended itself and is now in the find out phase. Awful that so many have to suffer because of poor decision making.

My agreement in 2020 also had a list of titles and ages, per the law. I was told by a lawyer that there was certainly a case for age discrimination, but I just wanted my severance and to move forward. That company is so poorly managed, and I am much happier now. Best wishes to those affected, I’m so sorry this happened to you.

I was on vacation, today, but didn't get laid off. I've been on the other side of a lay offs more than once. It's harsh. It is probably a good thing the employee surveys were done before the layoffs. DSG wouldn't have made the grade for best places to work.

If they want to save money then fire the upper level abusive management teams. Problem solved. As always low level employees pay the price for greedy a-s companies.

Hearing the anger from employees that still have their jobs makes me feel a little better. My boss and team haven’t even reached out to me. Shows how worthless I was/am. Hope they have fun doing my horrible job.

Preach! I hope everyone left fills out those stupid fake a-s surveys and screams their disgust at how this was handled. I am so sad right now at how I have been treated by this company. And still did not received exit letters, as I see many others have not either.
