Layoffs coming that will affect corporate on Monday

I know a lot of people who were lazy and terrible that were kept. Good people were let go instead. Just makes no sense
they don't tell you on purpose so they can justify doing this. The only care about the bottom line. they better be careful because when people that are backed in to a corner don't really have anything to lose.
Funny I was NEVER told I was doing a bad job. I was always told I was doing well. Never given any idea that I needed to improve on anything. I’ve tried to move into another position multiple times and was constantly rejected. So I’m fired because I can’t get moved on and don’t want to continue to rot in my current job? Di-ks won’t let me or help me move on and it’s my fault? Also my old manager bullied me and made up lies to HR so there’s a strike as well. This place needs SUED.
@4sbp+1obeSoyg alot are probably saying that through their teeth because it recruiters like it.
So it sounds like what ACTUALLY happened was that every org was told to cut staff by 10-15% (like the previous layoffs in 2017 and 2020). Each org possibly decided how they wanted to do this separately, and 'ol Vladdy decided it was time to start kicking the low performers. Dude, if you have 10-15% low performers, YOU ARE TERRIBLE AT HIRING AND MANAGING. What a joke that place is. People need to stop actively supporting this company in their "I got laid off" posts. They DO NOT care about you. Talk about the people you worked with that you will miss, sure...but stop with all of the "thanks, DSG!" BS. It's time they get the backlash they deserve.
It su-ks people lost their jobs. But the performance claims from Vlad make sense anecdotally; I had worked on teams with some of the engineers let go, and they were the lowest performers on their teams, and I had not great feedback during review cycles going back as far as 2 years. I'm sure mistakes were made but others might have been the right decision ultimately.
First, very sorry to everyone that was let go. You all are valuable people and will all be missed at DSG. Wonder if the lay off was as "diverse" as what they want their hiring to be? With that:
TL;DR The people that were let go was because they su-ked, we didn’t care enough about them to even follow the corporate process with PIP or constructive feedback to allow them to improve. We wanted to quickly get rid of dead weight to improve the Technology group so we did it in 1 day and not drag it out.

The BA--S on Vlad, today he is having a CTO Thoughts LIVE and he just said the 10% cut was because they were all under-performers. He is slamming all the people laid off that it was their fault for not performing and thanking those that are still here for their understanding and that they are high performers. We aren't reducing headcount, this was getting rid of dead weight but it will take time to rehire and we will do it in a phased way.
Criteria on teammates impacted: Decisions were made at the Director level and was two fold:
- Performance based. Skill-set and potential to evolve their skill-set.
- How they show up as a teammate in the workplace. The Teammates that were let go were Teammates that just didn't meet the criteria for the future.
Question in the comments: "If this was performance based, why were we not following official process in having all these people in feedback loops or PIP's on how they were showing up? How does this show that our company is equipped and able to invest in bettering our own people?"
Vlad: We do that and continue to do that, at 10% scale to make this change, we removed some of the additional rules for managers to get through this process. But history shows these people don't improve so this was a way to accelerate this process. "Why drag it out 6 months or a year." Vlad says, feedback was given to teammates on how to improve in reviews and Teammate feedback so it shouldn't be a surprise. Nobody has questioned anyone that was let go. "Nobody is bigger than the team."
They will be rehiring "better" talent in all the positions that were let go so the expectation isn’t to do “more with less.” This was a way to slow down in order to speed up.
He says the cuts had nothing to do with the earnings call the next day, just a complete coincidence. Other areas of DSG were also doing a similar exercise so it was also just a coincidence it happened at the same time. If we would have allowed manager input on who was let go the process would have taken way too long.
Vlad says he is, “unapologetic that we made the cuts.”
Final comment: It’s not what we do, it’s how we make each other feel.
I will ask a lawyer friend of mine if we would not report it would we be able to fight it and keep it because f them
Would love to hear some names of the upper mgmt team that was let go. The company needs back a guy by the name of G Sterling to get that ship headed in right direction Hobart is a Joke!
Early this year, a certain EVP, VP, directors/rd's and hr folks were termed swiftly. There was a party in Florida on a yacht with some sketchy happenings going on there. (I was not there) Will let your mind wander. #dsglife
@4fzz+1obeSoyg what is this yacht party I keep hearing mentioned? This is company lore that I have not heard of before.
This is an embarrassment of a company and I'm so sorry for everyone affected. I was fortunate to leave DSG a few years ago (negotiating my exit). I make way less now but work less hours, feel appreciated and respected, and I trust the company I work for. DSG is just such an evil and corrupt company. Never forget the "magic yacht party of 2023" and all the DSG sponsored "party favors."
Based on my 2020 agreement: Yes, you have to report that you have a new job, and then the severance stops. But it appears to be on YOU to do that reporting. I waited until I was officially onboarded to report it just to be sure.
Can we just class action lawsuit these fu----g a--holes as one huge group? I’m so angry
Yes, but only IF you report it right? 😅
👇👇👇
I am trying to figure that out. I asked that in the meeting and the sc-m said no you do not lose it, but mine has an amount that I believe if I make more than I will lose it but I have to confirm.
reading separation agreement, you lose severance when you take another job?
Nobody in their right mind should consider this place with their heart. This place is nothing but a 9-5 and if you are lucky enough to remain at corporate 5 years top if they don’t fire you or let you go. Eddie is a liar when it comes to keeping his word on people retention. And dont believe the $300 cookie jar story and how it all got started. That story is completely false and made up by Ed!
Yup was on receiving line of this back in 2020, after many years of promotions and service. Dks will do it again and again like this. Their mid mgmt levels had no clue how to merchandise and still don’t. I could name so many in hardlines that were terrible at their jobs all they wanted to do was sit up front in the auditorium together near Ed when he gave his address, good ole boys club that were clueless no wonder the company keeps sinking with id--ts like that at the helm !
If this is a 3 year cycle, they must be following jack Welch's rank and yank where the "bottom" ranked 10% of the employees are fired. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitality_curve
They just need a cover story like covid or too much theft to hide the real activity.
I’m sorry to hear about this for all of you. I don’t work there anymore but still have friends there. I was there when Ed said that this would “never happen again.” If it is any consolation, leaving there was one of the best choices I have ever made. So many long hours, nothing ever good enough, always want more with no extra staff. While it may be hard now, I’m sure you will come out better in the long run. Wishing all of you the best through this next chapter.
I still have not received my letter???? Anyone else?
Hey all. This is my third post here. I did end getting my letter later on Monday. Definitely having a lawyer review because they are doing some shady sh-t. I still need to go hand my lap top. I might just throw it at the sliding doors since it’s just a large paperweight. Damn thing never worked. 😂 Yesterday was rough. I was hurting a lot. Today I feel better though and I mean it. Already reaching out to people for jobs and getting my resume brushed off. I do wan to yo say this. It’s normal to be pi---d off at them. I’m still mad as he-l. Use the time to regroup and decompress but there are some many remote jobs out there and it’ll be better than what we had here. But know this. DSG is dead to me now. Blocking the emails, socials, never buying anything from them again.
I was an employee some time ago at DSG. From my 6th month in role until month 9 I was bullied by JJ (iykyk) and other high-ups. This company promises the world but they truly only care about cold hard cash. In the year after I left, over 100 of my staff also quit because they got the full DSG treatment from above. This is a horrible, horrible company that wants to be the Amazon of sporting goods and they want to ki-l all the competition. I think we're observing their downfall.
Go look at the social media. It’s nothing but complaints of lack of inventory and poor service. They can lie all they want about theft but they won’t out run the truths.
Manufactures like Nike and Adidas realize they can sell direct to customers via eComm without the middle man.
Di-k’s will soon go the way if so many big box giants.
I feel completely broken
I could tell who on my larger team was laid off before anyone even told us because within an hour of our INCREDIBLY brief meeting with our SVP (well, formerly anyway lol), I saw their status circles on Teams go white. I’m one of the “lucky” ones who kept their jobs but was part of a reorg that now reports up to a total fu----g toolbag.
I don’t know if there’s a “good” way to handle layoffs per se, but if there is, this wasn’t it. I’ve lost a lot of respect for this company. I’m so sorry to everyone who lost their jobs yesterday.
When I was on my call I was being locked out. I am like WTF can you at least wait until the call is over. I may try the service if I sign the severance. I almost don't want to and see if I can get a job fast. I have to talk to an attorney. if someone does talk to someone lets share here and connect somehow and come at them with numbers.
Anybody else not get their fu----g letter yet to their email??? This is fu----g absurd
Anyone using the employment services they're offering?
For anyone wondering about severance plus unemployment, they fired me years ago and I collected both.
I had about an hour on my computer. And I still don’t have an email with severance sh-t omg come on
I was kicked out of the system less than hour after my call. So before 12:30pm Monday.
Attorney, Jim Carroll,He works for Rothman Gordon P.C. 310 Grant Street Pgh 15219. 412-338-1100. He’s worked with others who have delt with DSG and has won. Worth the call..
How many people were locked out of their computer and system within an hour of the call? I was told I would have the day to take care of things and then, locked out.
They can say it was shrink/theft all they want...the street saw right through that line of BS.
Still no letter here. I’m so angry
We’re going to blame theft as the issue? Because theft only impacted Q2?…. We’re going to blame LP when they have zero ability to hold store operators accountable for underperformance? Several store managers and DM’s fail to operate stores successfully by maintaining store operations and service and selling standards, but we’re going to find some sort of excuse and fail to hold anyone accountable for performance.. going ditch to ditch and expecting teammates to drive a service culture and sell add ons when they can’t even function operationally sounds more like the problem. Maybe we should focus on actually running a business that profits and provide customer service to deter theft or identify behaviors of shoplifters. Astonishing that this is the response, showing that senior leaders have no clue how their stores are actually functioning and have no strategy to fix this other than ruin someone’s life.
In a nutshell, what Di-k and Di-k's is doing WRONG! This from the guy who started the most valueable company in the world.

You can apply for unemployment, but since the severance is paid out over time (on the same pay schedule as your previous paychecks), it counts as income and you will be denied unemployment (I was). Your HR contact might have more details, or you could call the unemployment office to double-check.
