Friday is a heads down work day. No one should be scheduling meetings. Give it a rest. It can wait until Monday (Tuesday in the case of Columbus Day) when people are fresh and will actually remember what's going on.
Aye... 🤦

OP, does your “Decline” button not work?
Right?! Then the meeting is over and the manager doesn’t have to actually answer any questions for those looking for help or do any real work. “Thanks team we’re out of time!”
Sick of people using up a large part of meeting time sharing their personal photos of vacations and such. It comes off as bragging and not everyone is interested. I go on expensive vacations and travel but I don’t like to rub it in anyone’s face who may not be able to do that so I keep it to myself. Also I couldn’t care less about your cr-ppy trip to Las Vegas. Only tacky people go there. Just stick to business. I could care less hearing about your beach timeshare condo.
“No meeting Fridays” just mean my Thursdays and Mondays are more painful. NOT worth it. Would prefer a few of the meetings on Fridays…agree with previous poster who said Friday meetings tend to be more relaxed.
I actually like Friday mtgs, although not near end of the day. People are more relaxed, and conversations are more productive.
I think more people are WFH on Fridays, which is more conducive to creative solutioning.
Better moods equal better outcomes.
We have someone like that on our team too. When we have many urgent topics to discuss, this guy spends 15 min of his time talking about his family vacation in South Carolina, sharing a sunset photo. Unfortunately we don't have much control because he is one of the senor leads who schedules our team meetings.
There is this old lead on our team who constantly goes on tangent and wastes our time during weekly meetings. When other people try to steer him to a more urgent topic, he says "that's off topic, let's not go into a rabbit hole", then he continues with his garbage for another 15 min. Our manager happens to like this old man, so we just get stuck with these wasteful meetings every week.
While most meetings are pointless, it would be helpful if people would not go on tangents and off topic. Happens non stop! People have ADD or so self absorbed they feel the need to spew nonsense. If you don’t have something on topic to contribute, keep quiet! Stop derailing meetings!
This is super prevalent across tech. And especially in CTO. Have some awareness people!
The vast majority of meetings are a waste of time. Those that aren't could often be drastically reduced in length. Get to the point and end it, as fast as possible.
Agree. WF is so meeting heavy it’s ridiculous. Back to back. No idea when they think we’re supposed to execute the actual work.
Our group has a no meeting Friday once a month, which only means everyone squeezes those missed meetings into the other 3 Fridays.
my group tried to initiate a no meeting Friday rule which lasted about a week
