Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone else feel completely screwed by AT&T?

Started off as a contractor for Cingular Wireless. Good leadership. I had great bosses there. Became FTE in 2006. Challenging work. Good merit raises. Nobody jacked with my 10% bonus.
AT&T brings CW back in house and rebrands it AT&T. My CW group gets absorbed into toxic T's culture and everything in a matter of months turns to sh-t. Those of us not directly supporting wireless get reassigned to legacy T groups. HORRIBLE managers. Boring, unchallenging work. Di----t leadership not knowing what they are doing or how to do it. Manage by spreadsheet and intimidation. Worthless required training. Advancement by a-s-kissing or by cronyism. No corporate vision. Sh---y merit raises. My 10% bonus is now refigured and there is a question if will I even get a bonus, and if so, how much. My CW 10% bonus was taken right off the top of my salary and nobody jacked with it. Did I mention absolutely sh---y management? Toxic culture. Wokism promoted over everything else.
This company not only screws their employees they also betray them by any means Stankey can dream up.

Get out if you can. It's only going to get worse. There is life after AT&T.

Do you mo--ns seriously not understand sarcasm? The "RTO is so woke!" guy is agreeing with you. No wonder this company is in trouble.

"Working in AT&T after few years makes you less competitive in the market for a good job, I have friends who are working in Apple and google telling me embarrassing stories about AT&T employees trying to have a job their and going through sad interviews"

IDK man, all those fancy big tech employees, are flooding LinkedIn right now too and can't get hired anywhere. AT&T will probably be picking them up soon. I actually don't mind having AT&T on my resume. I never felt ashamed of it or that it was holding me back in any way.

**I can’t figure out why people don’t abandon their jobs and way of life because they don’t like their jobs/employer.

I mean, so what if you have a mortgage to pay, children in school, paying spouse’s medical expenses, etc. etc.
I just can’t figure these people out!**

Love the sarcasm, but you missed the point entirely. This is exactly what I'm saying, people complain about how bad AT&T is, yet, something is keeping them around, right? Well you got that straight, the money. Something to pay their mortgage with. Support their families. Clearly it's not all bad, is it? Or they would move on. So whenever anyone wants to talk about how terrible AT&T is and how much they got screwed, maybe they should stop and think what kept them around for this long, and if it was worth it. If they're still here, it obviously was. The strange part is not that they won't quit, is that they actually do enjoy the benefits, yet claim it's a terrible place to work at. That's the paradox.

@3nmw+1oQjK5SX The engineer, yup. I interviewed at the FAANG companies and I’m sure I embarrassed myself because I sure as he11 didn’t get the job. I couldn’t answer half of their technical questions, but I’m constantly a high performer at AT&T. Everybody looking for a new job is screwed. They will need all the luck in the world.

I am not sorry for what I am going to say, but it is true proven and tested after working 17 years already in AT&T
Working for AT&T is like working for the government, it numbs you and slow you down
I have a master degree in engineering
But what I do in AT&T mobility doesn’t need more than high school education, skills improvement and innovation doesn’t exist
Working in AT&T after few years makes you less competitive in the market for a good job, I have friends who are working in Apple and google telling me embarrassing stories about AT&T employees trying to have a job their and going through sad interviews
After 17 years in AT&T I only filed for 4 silly patents, I am ashamed even to mention them
17 years of wasted life and sadly I don’t qualify to any other job with the same pay

Another Trump University graduate (see quote).

If anything, RTO is backward thinking, not forward thinking- AKA progressive.

But I doubt you’ll understand.

You set high expectations for your relationship with att and what they owe you. They never committed to that. As long as they paid you as agreed and provided the benefits that were offered at the time I wouldn't call it getting screwed. If you were able to have many years of well paid employment it was probably worth it. If you could have done better somewhere else you probably would have left.

The ones that got screwed are the lazy ones that did not upgrade their skills. Still don't get why anyone needs the internet.

And yet The Stink pays your internet bill, so you can come here and talk sh-t. I mean he's a pos, no doubt, but again, if there weren't more positives than negatives about this job, you would leave, right?

So far, my entire work life here with T all of my bosses and colleagues have been great. Salary is competitive enough and i get bonuses yearly. Can't say i got screwed by T, it is what it is. T helped me get where i am at, salary wise. If they lay me off for some reason, then off I go to another employer. Don't give loyalty to companies ever. Do your job, go home, relax, talk to your cats. T is just a job.

Screwed by the Stink - and you are surprised?

The Stink stole my pension, or a large part of it.
The Stink stole a week of my vacation.
The Stink stole my cr-ppy healthcare and replaced it with even worse healthcare.
The Stink stole my retiree health benefits.

The Stink will steal anything not bolted down to the floor...

some colleagues tolerate the toxic stuff, but find the technical work interesting and rewarding, knowing that if the unfortunate news occurs that you get surplussed, at least you have some skills.

some colleagues complain about the toxic stuff, do nothing and try to get out of their duties, stay under the radar by not participating in projects, or do the bare minimum.

About a 50-50 split of these type of employees.

Screwed? IDK. I know the first comment on this page will get downvoted to heck, but I actually agree with the guy. No one is forced to stay with an employer they don't like, for whatever reason. I had my fair share of issues with T, and I had horrible bosses, and some good ones, and after many years, found myself in a very good place... until they laid me off. Do I feel I was screwed? No. I've done a lot of great things and gained a lot of valuable experience. My time at T allowed me to build a great life. Now I'm moving on to the next chapter. This is life, man. Ups and Downs. Many people appear to truly hate it at AT&T, but won't move on. It's just so strange.
