Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Tech is done

Not ONE of the three "replacement" leaders has a real tech background. They're all business "leaders".

There are some actual tech leaders with tech skills at Truist. And, the fact that that were ALL passed over should tell you that Truist is planning to decimate the tech ranks.

It will take at least ten years to recover. 10 years of dying on the vine.

"There are entire continents of people on this planet that can handle the tech part of running a bank, all of them interchangeable. "

That statement is true if you believe that Bank should be a financial services company supported by Tech.

In reality, Truist shouldn't be a Bank supported by Technology...it should be Tech Company offering Banking Services.

But, the fact that "Business Leaders" have been elevated to run a Tech org indicates that Truist doesn't understand this distinction.

"Meh, you can always surround yourself with tech folks. You need good leaders first and foremost."

I know it hurts you technical people to hear it, but this is true. There are entire continents of people on this planet that can handle the tech part of running a bank, all of them interchangeable. Good leaders? Few and far between. So few and far between, in fact, that Truist doesn't have even one.

It'll be easier to dissolve Truist and migrate their customers into another bank's existing systems. Retool any branches you want to keep and retrain the employees.

Any unique business lines will be sold off well in advance to maintain liquidity and juice the numbers before the sale/merger.

In my experience, most technical people make lousy business leaders. And most business people make lousy technical leaders. Just the way it is.
