Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Remote

People's ability to work remotely from home is being revoked. I am now required to go into an office three days a week. This change may soon affect your job, unless you are a manager. Managers are allowed to remain remote and avoid collaborating with their team.

@2ypf you still think it hasn't even started. You're definitely WF executive material.

No, it is not a lie. One of my managers operates remotely from home on a full-time basis, while the other manager attends the designated office once per week.

The company is consolidating into key locations with a firm end date for completion.

First on the hit list is anyone working remote without an accommodation, but within commuting distance of a current office. When this happens will vary from OC/LOB to OC/LOB but it will happen first and already is happening in some places, as evidenced by OP.

Then the non-core location exit will accelerate. it already began in finance last year, and in HR/recruiting this year. It will continue through the firm.

Exceptions highly restricted and subject to continuous scrutiny and rejustification - signed off at OC level.

Where you been OP? You must be tech. This happened the beginning of last year for the rest of the firm. S@ck it up, take a shower & get in the office like the rest of us!

First of all, the statement that managers are allowed to work from home is a lie. Second, anyone who wishes to not come to the office, please quit. The rest of us are tired of hearing from you whiny, entitled underperforming losers.

If you don’t want to go in don’t go in. If you get fired don’t complain. This subject has been discussed for so long. Nothing left to say. You are free to choose what you want to do

Time to get out of the PJs and get back to work. Most of you ruined it for the rest of us with your barking dogs and whining kids begging for their French toast sticks during our conference calls. My manager worked in her laundry room while her washer was going during calls while she builtt a house for 2 years. People were sitting in car pool lines picking up kids. Please!!!

You need to ask yourself if you want your job at all or are willing to go in 3 days a week. WF closed my office. I would go in but no longer have an office to go to. Now, in-line to be laidoff. Been at company for over 30 years. Not my choice to be remote since Covid and shutting down my office, but still being laidoff. I understand that it makes no sense to make you go in when there is no collaboration, as they call it, but what makes less sense is training someone else to do your job just because you don't have a place to go into because they took it away.

I was originally hired as a 100% remote employee, but now the company is forcing me to drive 45 min each way, 3 times a week. The problem is that the average gas price in my town is more than $5 per gallon. It's draining my bank account...very fast.

@1nzg Uh, the WFH I've done for a decade is not an accommodation, it's a reality of the job. I was literally told by the hiring manager that I could move anywhere in the USA so long as I was available when needed. I'm always available when I'm supposed to be (even when I'm not).

Just because your job didn't need or have it doesn't mean some of ours didn't. Now because yours was taken away you want ours taken away, too? You must be a communist.

It's really hard for me to feel sympathy around this, OP. I've been dragging myself into the office three days a week for years at this point. WFH didn't even used to be an accommodation before the pandemic. I would love to be fully remote, but since that isn't an option, i think all but the most extreme circumstances should be forced to suffer just like the rest of us.

“You are a liar. Managers RTO before their employees. It’s about time for you to show up and work”

I believe that the original poster was simply expressing the notion that if employees are required to return to work, then the manager should also be expected to do so. Additionally, I am aware of at least three managers who work entirely remotely and whose teams must report in to an office. I believe the point being made is that It’s hypocritical.

Sure, there's herd mentality and political considerations at play, but all that's doing is causing the eventual collapse of the failed approach more dramatic and painful. It could be smooth and painless, but the elites would rather kick the can down the road. It won't last. Eventually they will look at employees in buildings as the waste of $ that they are.

They are busting my b*lls to come in 3 days a week in Charlotte but I know of people who have threatened to quit and then all of a sudden they are remote in Team works. One guy was in Charlotte now he’s remote in Tennessee, another guy moved to Hilton Head to “retire” and is now remote. Complete BS and totally unfair.

Not 100% true. know of at least one senior manager in control who is remote and her team is not. Also know of another manager in remediations and team is not. And those are just two that I personally know of and who do not have medical accommodations. There’s definitely got to be more.

I am 100% remote in tech. And rightfully so given workloads and off hours change work. Been like this for the last 15 years and nowhere near a traditional office. They don’t like it give me severance I’d be very happy to leave this clown show

Not all corporations are doing this, and it won't last. It's simply to expensive. Wells will change it's mind, or it will be eaten by more nimble / efficient competitors that attract all the real talent.

I’ve been going in 3 days a week since March of ‘22 (and 5 days a week prior to the pandemic). Yes, it su-ks. No, they won’t change direction. Yes, they’ll gaslight us as to the reasons why. No, it won’t change. Yes, this is what it’s like to work for a corporation in 2023.🤦🏻‍♂️
