Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Affected work group

Was on call with leadership and apparently I'm apart of "affected" work group that may or may not be surplus in September. Not given any answers just HR responses and told to wait for official letter in September. Can't make this stuff up

“This reminds me of my own experience.

Back in March of 2020 my group was informed that we were among those that would be "impacted" by layoffs, though there was absolutely no information regarding when it would happen, how many people would he hit, or what criteria would be used.

Literally, just an announcement that amounted to "some of you will be sacrificed for Stink's errors, but we won't say who, when, why, or how many"

A couple of months later, we were again told that our team was part of the impacted group, but still no details whatsoever.

Finally, in mid-August, nearly 6 months after we were "warned", we got the news of who would be hit. Yep, I was one of them, but by that time the uncertainty and casual way that T was torturing us in such small and subtle ways meant I was delighted to be on the list.

My separation was in mid-October. By early-December I was in my new position. Every day since then for nearly three years I wake up every day and remind myself how great it is to no longer be associated with T. It's such a feeling of liberation.“

So liberating that you’re def not bitter and still visit our layoff board for totally normal reasons

If you want to continue communication work then start asking around what contracting company is replacing the work. Get your resume updated and be ready to apply, if you are whacked. Unfortunately a lot of the work is going offshore.

"Not sure which is worse - knowing a surplus is coming or just getting whacked out of the blue."

I've been through both, recently, with the T (laid off, came back, slashed again). I can say with certainly that knowing (but not knowing when, or if it's for sure) is far more torturous.

I feel for y'all.

Last month I was asked to complete my Contingency Profile update due to possible assignment later this year and into 2024. Today, I was notified my neck was on the chopping block and I’ll find out in OCTOBER if I still have a job! These layoffs 2-3 times a year every year are making me tired! 2 months, not sure what’s worse, being told you’ve gtg or told wait two months and THEN we will tell you. Hard to stay focused in what was already a disaster due to relocation and RTO.

They don’t bother with these calls under the Anthony org. You just assume you are always in an effected work group. Cause they just call you up and tell you to get your stuff together and give you 2 weeks.

Not sure which is worse - knowing a purplish is coming or just getting whacked out of the blue.

I'm also with 40+ years, a hard working union woman, most of the time enjoying my job and most of my coworkers. I understand younger workers would like to see me go but I'm not going until the company pays me to go. I'm OK waiting, I get 5 weeks vacation plus all the paid holidays and some personal days, my job is easy and I'm good at it, so I'll just come to work, not knock myself out, and hang out till the next package, hopefully 9/15 or 12/15, or next year. I'm patient. Living life and peace to all.

Another 40 year dude here, lmao at the disrespect and judging on here by many without a clue, and the funniest part is that they're so clueless that they don't even know just how stupid they are, kind of like how they think upper management is so stupid (ok, yes they are) but they don't realize that they're just as stupid. I'll continue lmao rolling in the money while new generations of golden boys and girls work so hard so retirees can keep getting paid while your silly little mind comes up with an even more laughable response.

Everyone may or may not be surplus in September. I hope nobody gets laid off Involuntarily but I hope to be surplus September 15th because I'll get two years pay, and after that runs out I'll collect unemployment for six months and then I'll turn on my 40 year pension, my 401k and my social security. America is great.

Funny, when I got hit in 2020, there were 3 groups. I was in the you are definitely gone group, group 2 was you might get laid off...there ended up being the under 40 group to avoid a lawsuit. Group 1 were relatives and a$$ kissers.

OP here, it's mass market group. Got an update that some groups are notifying affected folks early since now they only give 2 week notice for surplus

Yes, that’s the worst hearing “you’re in an impacted effected work group” then you have to wait 2-4 weeks to learn if you are specifically going to be impacted.

Sure, no STRESS there!! Sadly, been there!

You’d think they would wait and see how many folks aren’t relocating before they did this, but wow. I guess we are in very bad shape financially for them to whack people already. Not looking good.

Wow this is all being done so differently throughout the business - some having calls, others letters, others letters in waves.
Unnecessarily stressful to employees - so sad to continue to see this.
Maybe T should share when it will end —even for a 30’day reprieve? Let people breathe.

This is the type of cr-p they do that absolutely bastes people with unnecessary stress. Have high BP and work for T? Good luck these days...
