The company I went to after leaving T doesn’t care if you work remotely or not. I have an office and I work from home from time to time. I am one of the weird ones that actually likes coming to the office, but I am not forced to.
Musical chairs takes an hour out of my day trying to find somewhere to sit when I could have been productive in my home office. We can't collaborate all that well as no one knows where anyone is sitting half the time so we are calling each other or on Teams anyway.
Because the majority shareholders in so many companies (Blackrock, Vanguard) also own a ton of commercial real estate that needs to be propped up until they can sell it off

Isn’t this part of the problem? Always just following what other companies are doing. Never the one to blaze a new trail or Find better ways to do things.
All the companies I’ve been interviewing with have gone 100% remote. They are getting rid of their blogs and all employees are remote / global including Europe. Win win for the company and their employees

Other companies are doing RTO so AT&T are just following suit. Reminds me of the following question, If your friend jumps off a bridge are you going to jump too. Stupid is as stupid does.

No thanks, my home is clean, well heated/cooled, plenty of coffee & food, quiet office to myself and I don't need to "collaborate" with anyone but my laptop.
IF there are a multitude of companies not doing RTO (as some state) then you will have no issues finding a job that allows for remote work.
Why are you still here, complaining??
RTO is a nation-wide push by CEOs who are being lobbied by the likes of Blackrock and other giant commercial real estate companies, in addition to local governments who are missing the tax revenue from daily visits by employees from other towns for lunch and errands.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed the very distinct increase in pro-RTO propaganda articles and "studies" lately in their news feeds despite the fact that most legit studies until now showed how teleworking actually increases productivity, mainly by fostering a happier, more content workforce.
In the case of AT&T, it has the additional benefit of being layoffs in disguise, since they want to reduce headcount anyway despite continuing to generate billions in profits year after year thanks to the employees (we can all agree I'm sure that leadership deserves very little credit for continued profitability as they've actually had a negative effect).

What critical skills do you have to qualify for relo assistance that couldn’t be found in the Atlanta or Dallas workforce?
And when "most" Companies can no longer attract the talent they need because they lost the talent they had, it will be too late. If "most" companies had campuses like Apple, Meta, and Google, sure RTO wouldn't be so bad, but when we get stuffed into a 60-year-old office building with terrible accommodations, there is no wonder people don't want to be in the office.

I don't care about other companies. I don't want to RTO and have to work. I prefer to do my own personal business on company time.
People. RTO isn’t the problem. Relocation requirements with no relocation assistance is the issue at hand!
It's not about returning to office it's about making a good portion of your company have to relocate to a new city and not pay for any of the relocation that's causing the biggest issue at att

RTO is a way of life now. Many companies like Google and Facebook that promised employees can indefenitely work remotely are changing their stance. No point fighting RTO. Embrace or quietly find another job.

Most companies with $12 workers with GEDS perhaps. Highly educated, experienced and valued people need not be herded into pens like cattle.
